After my husband got his Samsung ring over a year ago, I had been really curious about the best iOS alternative. After doing a bunch of research, the Oura ring emerged as the most accurate ring on the market. I also use an Apple Watch for health monitoring, but it is so delightful to be able to take the watch off at night! Mostly, I love the Oura ring. It’s comfortable, lightweight, non-obtrusive, and seems to do the job. The battery life is great! I typically charge it while I shower, so I never see a dead battery. The sleep tracking is highly sensitive, much more than the Apple Watch, so it records all my little wake-up's throughout the night. The cons of this ring are minimal but worth mentioning. I’m not sure how durable the ring itself is. I’ve had it for almost two months and it is definitely scratched up. It’s not as though I’m wearing it while performing hard manual labor. I just do every day chores and this has led to scuffs and scratches. I also wish the charger was wireless (like an iPod case) where you could throw the ring in it and take the whole thing with you and it would charge. The app needs its own review, but since it is required to access the data from the ring, I will do that here as well. The app is crucial to the use of the ring, and it costs money to use. I don’t love that. However, I do love all the app tells me, so it is worth it for me. The app seems much more in tune with me than Apple Health, even though they share data. A few days after getting the ring, I got a cold. The app knew before I did that I was getting sick. I was able to take precautions to not only not spread my cold to others, but to also turn up the self-care so that the symptoms were not too bad. I also really appreciate the chronotype feature that helps you determine your optimal sleep schedule. It calibrated mine fairly quickly and it matches what I had always felt was best for me. It even dynamically sets a “move” goal each day based on your sleep score from the previous night, intuitively knowing if you feel run down and need an easy day or if you feel energized and ready to climb mountains. The app is a treasure trove of data and informative reports. My biggest gripe about the app, aside from the required subscription, is the sleep tracking feature. Like most people, I climb into bed and then spend some time on my phone. I am not actively trying to sleep, but the ring will interpret that as being unable to fall asleep, which can lower your sleep score. I wish that there was a way to let the ring know when you actually put the phone away, turn off the light, and start to go to sleep. Ultimately the whole product is a little expensive, but the data it provides is incredibly insightful and helpful. If you’re in the market for a smart ring, which you probably are if you’re reading this, I recommend giving the Oura ring a try.

I have really enjoyed this compared to a watch & find it much easier for my ADHD self to remember to charge. I have sensory sensitivities and have been much more consistent wearing the ring than a activity watch (apple/garmin/etc.). I got the black and enjoy it. The ring feels light and is sturdy. I’ve hit it on a few things and dropped it and no scratches thus far or damage.
