This honey is a giant step up from my Masterbuilt electric smoker. Pit Boss monitors and controls its internal cooking temperature, controls smoke (circulates smoke with a fan), and automatically feeds pellets to keep the smoke going. The smoke is CLEAN -- minus the black soot of the Masterbuilt. Because there is no soot, cleanup is a snap. Plus you can watch what is going on inside through the glass door. Built in temperature probes monitor the meat temperature. They're accurate (I verified it). The large water tray lasts long. The internal cooking temperature control is a godsend. When I smoked meat on my old Masterbuilt, the meat temperature would rise faster towards the end of the smoke. The Pit Boss does not have this issue. I believe this is because heat from the wood chips in the Masterbuilt raised the internal cooking temperature, even though the temperature setting remained the same; balancing smoke and cooking temperature was difficult. The Pit Boss does this automatically, and does it well. I smoked the salmon at 200F to get a good smoky flavor. The sides and top of the smoker get warm, but not too warm to touch. Even at 400F+, the back remains cool Only the top and sides get hot. For serious low and slow smoking, you don't have to worry about heat. The Pit Boss is heavy, but I assembled it in my garage and wheeled it around onto the patio myself. I left off the door and racks to make it lighter when I moved it. I smoked good salmon in my Masterbuilt. In the Pit Boss, the salmon was elevated head and shoulders above anything else I ever smoked -- I think the salmon reached "divine" status. Can't wait to do a prime rib! I was considering a Bradley, but the Pit Boss can endure subzero temperatures whereas the Bradley cannot, and the Pit Boss is raised off the ground whereas the Bradley sits on the ground. A person on the phone at Pit Boss said Canadian customers smoke at 15 below while it snows. My kind of guys, my kind of smoker! The Pit Boss was delivered flawlessly by Best Buy FREE, and their price is lower than anywhere online. No reason to look anywhere else.

To date I have smoked a pork butt, ribs, and a chicken. Everything worked great, used my MEATER thermometers with the supplied probe and temps matched up and slight difference on ambient temp in box due to placement of the MEATER and the inside gauge within the Pit Boss. Satisfied with all and will keep smoking!

This has been a great purchase! First time owning a smoker and I can’t stress how easy to use it is and the quality of food that comes out from using it. Easy to assemble and maintain! I would recommend this smoker and pretty much anything from Pit Boss

Great smoker! I recommend this one to anyone from novice to pro. We have smoked ribs, brisket, pork butt and a burgers. Everything has come out perfect! The kids devoured the brisket to the point that they asked for another one for New years!!. Well, i guess i foresee 14-hours of smoking in the near future.

It’s a big smoker and plenty of room for lots of cooking. Being able to move the racks to different locations is a big plus compared to similar styles by other brands. I returned this after the initial burn in because the built in temp probe was reading 360 degrees but my independent probe was reading around 470 degrees and sometimes over 500 degrees. The controller never read over 360 degrees during the burn in. Probably needed a new temp probe or controller but I didn’t want to deal with that on a brand new product. The box also shows this has wifi capability but that is incorrect as this does not have the capability. I ended up purchasing the PitBoss Pro series from another big box store and have had no issues with that model.

This is my second smoker from Pit Boss. I upgraded from my series 3. Great product and I would recommend to friends/family.

I love my new toy. Never own one and alway wanted one. Finally I got one and love it.

I couldn't use the smoker because of error codes. YouTube confirms the issues with Pit Boss error codes. Pit Boss customer service only provides replacement parts that take 6 weeks. Being that the unit was brand new, they wanted to send a new ignitor and control panel that I would have to install. I couldn't even get it to perform the first burn off. Good thing I'm a Total Member and was able to get a refund. Dont buy.

I purchased the Pit Boss Vertical Smoker because I've had a charcoal offset smoker for a few years, and was just not enjoying the amount of work required for a long smoke. I already have a propane grill so I didn't need the high temp searing available on the barrel version. I wanted something that was easy to use and had a consistent smoke. This smoker did everything I wanted and more. Setup of the smoker took about an hour on my own. Instructions were very straight forward and I had no issues assembling it on my own. That being said it can be awkward and heavy, so having help for repositioning would make setup easier. I bought a bag of the Championship blend pellets from Pit Boss as well. No issues with moisture, and everything I've smoke had a good smoke flavor. No strange aftertastes. Pros: Since this has such a large hopper you should never have to refill mid cook. Temperature probe is accurate and has enough length for all levels of the smoker. There is so much surface area in this smoker you should have no issues cooking large batches. Startup and cool down are fast enough I don't feel like I need to think about planning too ahead for timing. Cons: Any ash that's created has no where to go but the bottom of the smoker. You have to make sure to clean it out before next use. Longest smoke I've done so far was 14 hours and it didn't feel like there was a worrying amount of ash on the bottom. The temp probe has to go through the door making it slightly awkward to make sure it doesn't get pinched when you close the door. A separate hole for the temp probes through the bottom might have been a good idea (no issues so far though). Door gets coated pretty quick with a film. Easy to clean off, but does not allow for easy viewing during a cook. I would definitely recommend this smoker if you don't need the higher heat/searing functionality of the barrel smokers.

Pick your favorite pellets for the type of Smoke flavor you want, set the appropriate temp, decide if you’re going to use the water reservoir or not…. then let the smoker do the rest of the work. It’s so easy is almost like cheating. Smoke flavor and the color the smoke adds to your meat, well that Smoke doesn’t lie!!! Clean off your racks before they cool and you are pretty much ready for your next bbq. Turkeys are my favorite to smoke Pull pork is amazing, chicken heavenly. Anything you cook in an oven that you want to add smoke to you can cook in this smoker. We are smoking scallop potatoes with the game today. Best and most delicious enchiladas I’ve ever had we smoked in the Pit Boss.

Works excellent, initial setup was a bit hard because of the weight but once everything was put together, it worked perfectly.

We have had this smoker for 5 months now and it exceeds expectations. Meats come out fully cooked and not a single mishap has occurred as of yet. Our previous smoker (different brand) required Macaguyvering on first attempt as the heating coils didn’t touch the pellet plate. This one only required minimal assembly. We don’t leave pellets in the reservoir as we are in humid FL. It is quite large but that’s on me for not reading the dimensions beforehand.

It's a good smoker with large adjustable racks, huge hopper for pellets and adequate seal to keep heat/smoke in the chamber. Drawbacks after 1 year: Living in Florida, I have to remove the pellets after use, it's just too humid to leave them in the hopper. It's really difficult to completely empty the hopper. Electronics malfunctioned: I have already had to replace the induction fan and I think my control board just failed.

Absolutely love our smoker. Have to clear the pellets out so it doesn’t get clogged at times but it has made some great food.

We put the smoker together ourselves, instructions were very easy to understand. We are impressed with the quality of the materials and the performance of this smoker. I would highly recommend it!

Recently purchased this smoker. This is a really good pallet smoker so far(used 3 times). I imagine the smoke flavors will continue to get deeper the more I use it. But so far it does a really good job. Will report back after several more uses.

This smoker has enough room for a weeks worth of food in one smoke!

Second use and it caught fire in the hopper. I made some personal modifications and I’ve not had issues since. Temps are off by about 5 degrees which seems to be normal as my other smoker was the same. If you need the space and you can get it on sale then get it otherwise look elsewhere
