Pere Ubu - Trouble On Big Beat Street - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Pere Ubu unveil their new album, 'Trouble On Big Beat Street', nearly four years after their previous record for Cherry Red, 'The Long Goodbye'. 'The Modern Dance' (1978) marked the end of Rock 'n' Roll. 'Trouble On Big Beat Street' marks the end of The Song. Pere Ubu ended with 'The Long Goodbye' (their last album, also on Cherry Red, from 2019). Pere Ubu begins again with 'Trouble On Big Beat Street'. If you missed the last 48 years then imagine a badattitude. Imagine Electric Light Orchestra - the version with Roy Wood - then add Muddy Waters playing guitar and Nina Simone singing 'Trouble On Big Beat Street', the 19th Pere Ubu studio album. David Thomas produced, mixed, and engineered it. The vinyl is ten tracks. The CD includes all 17 tracks recorded during the sessions. Those extra seven tracks were too good to lose but took up too much time to fit on a vinyl . Pere Ubu is David Thomas, Keith Moliné, Gagarin, Alex Ward, Andy Diagram, Michele Temple and Jack Jones. Keith Moliné and Andy Diagram are the two pale boys. They have played with David more than 28 years. Electronica artist Gagarin was soundman for the two pale boys. Michele Temple has been in Pere Ubu 30 years. Improviser and life-long fan Alex Ward submitted a cover version of a David Thomas song to the band's live-streaming show. David invited him to join the band. David met Jack Jones in the pub. Album Tracks 1. Love Is Like Gravity 2. Moss Covered Boondoggle 3. Crocodile Smile 4. Movie in My Head 5. Nyah Nyah Nyah 6. Robbie LaBlanc - Double Trouble - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Robbie (and his brother Brian) have been singing and playing instruments since age 3. Robbie's first influences (besides his dad always singing and playing the guitar) were Trini Lopez and the Beatles. Shortly after, the influences were bands like Creedence Clearwater Revival and Grand Funk Railroad. Robbie's first break in the music business came when he met Rock and Roll Hall Of Famer Felix Cavaliere of The Rascals in CT. Felix produced the album InchFURYInch with a slew of great musicians in a CT studio. After the album disappeared from the charts, Robbie signed with a management company that had Michael Bolton ties and the duo recorded at least four albums worth of material at Michael's CT studio. It still failed to generate a record deal. When that deal ended about three years later Robbie dropped a DAT tape in Arif Mardin's mailbox in CT. Arif called the next day and a deal with Atlantic Records was on the table. One hurdle to go, a showcase with the new Atlantic regime. Again, it proved disappointing, no deal.At the suggestion of a friend, a CD was sent to Frontiers Records and the two InchBlanc FacesInch records were done in 2005 and 2009. Robbie then signed on to sing with the InchFind MeInch project which has received some great reviews on all three releases.Robbie also sings lead vocals in a band called East Temple Avenue which will have it's first in 2020 as well. ETA is comprised of members from various bands like InchWork of ArtInch and InchCruzhInch along with Darren Philips (founder) and Phil Lindstrand. In 2019 Robbie hooked up with Escape Music to do a Inch70's and 80's vibeInch record and Robbie loved the idea. The result is that a solo record will be coming in 2021, written and produced by Steve Overland and Tommy Denander. The songs are fresh and vibrant, just what we need in these troubling times and with Robbie's powerhouse vocals leading the w

The Necks - Disquiet - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

On Disquiet, The Necks stretch their immersive, shape-shifting sound across three discs and more than three hours of labyrinthine, patient intensity. This is their twentieth studio recording and it marks the 39th year of the band's existence.Meticulously recorded and sculpted, the four extended pieces on Disquiet see Tony Buck, Chris Abrahams, and Lloyd Swanton pushing at the outer edges of their collective intuition, building and unraveling hypnotic structures with microscopic focus. Present is the usual arsenal of piano, double bass, and drums, and all the in-between of sounds undefined and sources obscured. The music of The Necks has always carried a profound sense of shared responsibility - between the players, of course, in their utter commitment to the improvisational - but also between the work and it's audience. With music so open, there are profound opportunities to choose what to focus on, whether to focus at all, etc. Disquiet takes this further there is no particular listening order prescribed. There is no InchDisc 1, Disc 2, Disc 3.Inch The music itself seems to stretch time, and this presentation challenges ideas of sequencing. The Necks, one may argue, are a mode of discovery as much as they are a band.Regarding the sound itself, The Necks' signature restraint and textural depth remain, with subtle tonal shifts, evolving motifs, and roiling phases of keen and propulsive clatter, strains of subdued surprise and unmatched intentionality - as ever, expansive and absorbing. Album Tracks 1. Rapid Eye Movement 1. Ghost Net 1. Causeway 2. Warm Running Sunlight
