The Black Angels bring the aura of mid-1966-the drilling guitars of early Velvet Underground shows, the raga inflections of late-show Fillmore jams, the acid-prayer stomp of Austin avatars the 13th Floor Elevators-everywhere they go, including the levitations on their second album, Directions To See A Ghost. Mid-Eighties echoes of Spacemen 3 and the Jesus and Mary Chain also roll through the scoured-guitar sustain and Alex Maas' rocker-monk incantations. But he knows what time it is. 'You say the Beatles stopped the war,Inch Maas sings in 'Never/Ever. They might've helped to find a cure/But it's still not over. ' Even so, this medicine works wonders. Inch - David Fricke, Rolling Stone When last we met The Black Angels, they were staring into the desert sun somewhere outside of Austin, Texas. Two years later, night has fallen and the spirits have come out. It's time for The Black Angels to provide Directions To See A Ghost. If you're familiar with Passover, the band's 2006 debut, you'll know that The Black Angels' music alone is enough to invoke spirits. There's a name for the band's sound Inchhypno-drone 'n' roll. Inch It's the sound of long nights on peyote, dreams of a new world order, and half-invented memories of the seamy side of 60s psychedelia. The Black Angels formed in Austin, Texas, in 2004, comprised of six people (now five) from very different backgrounds. Singer/vocalist Christian Bland is the son of a Presbyterian Pastor and was raised in a devoutly religious household. Bassist/guitarist Nate Ryan was born on a cult compound, and drummer Stephanie Bailey claims she's a descendent of Davy Crocket. She and Alex Maas (vocals/guitar) both believe a little girl in a red linen dress haunts the group's home. InchCivil War battlefields are prime spots for seeing ghosts,Inch says Bland. Double vinyl LP pressing. 2012 album from the British Alt-Rock trio. Muse didn't set out to make the most gloriously ambitious album of their career. How could they have? the band who dreamt up InchSupermassive Black Hole,Inch Knights of Cydonia and the three part InchExogenesisInch symphony were already well versed in going One Louder. Any wilder, any further out there, and Muse would risk incineration by a dwarf star of their own making. But you don't become one of the biggest bands on this planet by sitting on your hands. So when Muse approached the making of their sixth studio album, they wouldn't stint on the choirs, strings and horn sections. And be reassured guitar shredding, piano thumping, orchestra arranging, book chewing, big thinking Matt Bellamy, as the band's chief songwriter, didn't lower his sights from the Big Picture nor ignore the Precious Details. And nor were the trio afraid of giving space to a brilliant new element to their sound; songs written and sung by bass player Chris Wolstenholme. Album Tracks 1. Supremacy 2. Madness 3. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression. This LP version comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Album Tracks 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Lhabia 3. Mascara 4. Around the Fur 5. Rickets 6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 7. Lotion 8.
