Isn't it possible to turn some local material into duets, for example Moravian songs? This question was posed by Jan Neff, himself from Moravia, who grew tired of repeating German songs over and over again at the piano with his wife and Antonín Dvorák. His question in fact stood at the birth of Moravian Duets and also marked the beginning of Dvorák's journey abroad. InchWhy not, find good lyrics and I will take care of the rest.Inch When the composer got the first selection of folk songs from Sušil's collection, he decided to take only the lyrics and provide them with his own tunes. As soon as the duets got into the hands of Johannes Brahms (who was a member of a committee that assessed Dvorák's application for a state scholarship), the well-established composer did not hesitate to recommend them to his Berlin Fritz Simrock. InchWhen you play them, you will enjoy them just as I did, and as a you will especially be pleased by their unique beauty.Inch It was Simrock who initiated the composition of a four-hand version of the Slavonic Dances that led to Dvorák's first major international success. The present recording is unique in another aspect as well the complete set of 23 Moravian Duets have been played and recorded on Dvorák's original grand piano, a 1879 Bösendorfer that is a pride of the Antonín Dvorák Museum in Prague. The challenge was taken hold of by young musicians who are not only crowned by international laurels but also possess a sensitivity both for the charm of Dvorák's songs and the unique timbres of the instrument touched by the composer's own hands. Award-winning Baroque violinist Rachel Podger takes the resurgence of the Arts in England post-1660 as the compelling inspiration for her new album, The Muses Restor'd. Adopting it's title as it's theme, Rachel and her vivacious Brecon Baroque take the listener on a journey of captivating violin-led chamber music from Jacobean to Early Georgian England. Ranging from the gentle intimacy of consort idioms to the full-blown instrumental virtuosity of the evolving Baroque period, this album uncovers little known glories of English instrumental music and it's influences. This refined and intimately chiselled chamber music celebrates a rich tradition where the violin joins a plethora of keyboards, lutes, viol and continuo cello reinstating these sonatas, fantasies, suites, grounds and popular tunes to the mainstream of English cultural life of the time. Together with four musicians from Brecon Baroque, Rachel Podger performs works by Handel, Lawes, Blow, Locke, Purcell, Schop, Jenkins, Baltzar and Jones.InchThis oeuvre provides a deeply satisfying kaleidoscope of musical expression over a century of British musical life.Inch - Rachel Podger Album Tracks 1. ?Clarinetist Anthony McGill and violinist Rachel Barton Pine are featured soloists on a new recording of two concertos composed in response to societal injustices by Syrian composer Malek Jandali, performed by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and led by Marin Alsop, a champion of the composer's work. Malek Jandali, called Inchdeeply enigmaticInch by Gramophone, has been praised for writing Inchheart-rending melodies, rich orchestration, clever transitions and creative texturesInch (American Record Guide). His repertoire, which ranges from chamber music to large scale orchestral works, integrates Middle-Eastern modes into Western classical forms and harmony. Rachel Barton Pine, Inchan exciting, boundary-defying performerInch (The Washington Post), performs Jandali's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra (2014), a work that honors Inchall women who thrive with courageInch according to the composer. Jandali's concerto is in recognition of the women of Syria, continuing his aim to preserve the cultural heritage of his homeland. The Violin Concerto incorporates Syrian melodies and idioms into Jandali's Western-inspired harmonies and forms. Jandali calls upon an array of Syrian and Arabic music forms and folk melodies including multiple sama'i and bashraf (instrumental pieces), and longa (dances), from different maqam (modes). He also makes use of the oud (Arabic lute) in his symphonic scoring to infuse the work with the authentic sound and feeling of Syria. A particularly notable sama'i inspired by traditional Syrian folk music from the area along the Silk Road Is used for a InchWomen's Theme.Inch This theme is representative of the folk music that is a source of comfort and healing for unjustly detained, peaceful Syrian activists and other women and mothers living in fear. Jandali's Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra (2021) is dedicated to it's performer Anthony McGil
