Q: Is this safe to be near? It feels like you shouldn't be breathing what it is shooting out.
A: Hi Nick, All of our formulations and active ingredients have been evaluated for potential human, animal, and environmental exposure scenarios. Data supporting these evaluations has been thoroughly reviewed and accepted by the US EPA and multiple regulatory agencies around the world. As such, they are approved for use when used as directed.
Q: By 20ft does that mean twenty feet in each direction around the device?
A: I haven't measured if it reaches 20ft but yes the repellant reaches in a circular area, so think of being in a dome of protection.
A: I do not notice any detectable smell with the human nose. I use them on our deck where there is no risk of bears. I cannot advise whether a bear would be able to smell it or would be attracted to it or not.
Q: Is this safe to use around pets?
A: Yes but they are not toys. We keep ours on a table on the back patio.
A: Hi LJ, Our Rechargeable/battery powered products (Radius, E-Series, EX-Series, EL-Series repellers) and Backpacker can be taken on aircrafts. The FAA recommends any devices containing lithium-ion batteries be carried in a carry-on luggage. It is important to ensure that the repeller is powered off and protected so that the repeller is not accidentally activated. For more information please visit the FAA website. Must go into a carryon luggage. Also any refills good recommendation to put in a ziplock bag because it is a liquid.
A: No. Flies don't seem to care.
Q: How do I turn the device off? Blue lights contue to be on.
A: You just press the button and hold it until you hear it beep for it to turn off.
Q: What about wind direction, speed, etc?
A: In breezy weather, place the unit upwind of your location so that the repellent is carried by the wind into the area you want to protect. Thermacell may be less effective on very windy days, although mosquitoes aren't typically out when it is very windy.
