I’ve said this with multiple things just as a starter, but battery life is all dependent on settings and usage situations. With everything this camera has to offer, that could mean recharging every few days or every few weeks. On the plus side, this one uses the same battery as their wireless doorbell and this one has 2 spots, so you can run two at the same time or hot swap and have no downtime. On the bad side, this battery is a bit of a pain to remove and uses micro-USB, which does come with a cable. With that said, I highly recommend buying extra batteries, the ultra ones at that, and possibly a charger station. The camera is rather big in size compared to most wireless cameras, however as mentioned, it can take 2 of the batteries, so that takes up the most space. Like their other camera systems, it all depends on settings depending on what you capture. At the default, it missed occasional people in the view as I knew I walked by there. However, up the settings as it suggested and now it is telling me the color of the cars driving by. The detailed descriptions only come with the pro service, which is a fair bit more than their solo or multi plans. However, the descriptions are usually spot on and they are a lot better to read than having to look at the video and see what it was. From something as simple as “A person is walking on the pathway” to details like “A person is walking on the pathway and placing a white envelope on the steps”. Again, depending on the settings, it can even identify the familiar face, tell you the color and type of animal in your yard or vehicle driving by. But, all that motion drains it down pretty fast. The “spotlight” is more of a flood light, but it does pretty decent at lighting up the nearby area and really makes itself obvious. If a passerby didn’t know there was a camera there at that time, they will certainly know now. You can also enable the feature to where it announces itself that “You are currently being recorded”. Overall, it is a good camera, just bulky and will eat through batteries if you want it at its best settings. Extra batteries is pretty much a must have and the standard ones are a bit of a pain to remove as there is extra space for the ultra battery packs. If you already use other ring cameras, getting the pro service is nice but twice as much as the multi. At least you get a 30 day free trial.

First you need to take the battery pack out and charge it. You will also need to take the battery pack out to get the contact shield off. To do that, press the metal tab toward the battery and it will slip out of the case. Please note the charge port on the battery pack is a mini USB and not USB-C. If you use the included charge cable, you’re OK. Another alternative is to use the port on the back side of the camera case. Pull the little plastic plug out and you will see an externally accessible USB-C charging port. Yeah! Pair this with a small solar panel and you have the best of both worlds. Since I already had a Ring subscription that supports multiple devices, setup was easy. I just followed the prompts. The app already knew the password to my IOT network from previous installs. I mounted the camera over my garage to get a good view of my front yard. It works great. The wide viewing angle covers what previously took two cameras to capture. I can’t really speak to battery life since I hooked this up to a small solar panel. I need a 12 foot ladder to access the camera and just didn’t want to deal with that in the middle of the winter to retrieve and charge the battery. (Note this camera comes with one battery pack, but is built to accommodate two if you desire longer battery life.) The video is sharp and clear. Even though the camera is far from my router, the signal has been steady. Pros: • It’s battery operated so no wiring is needed and it will work with a solar panel. • It can be placed pretty much anywhere that it gets a WiFi signal. • It can be mounted multiple ways. • The video is sharp and clear • It works well in low light • Spotlight and siren • Two way voice • It works with Alexa Cons: • You are pretty much out of luck setting it up if the app doesn’t work. There are essentially no instructions outside of the process built into the app. • To get the most out of the camera you need a subscription. However, if you already have multiple Ring devices, you can just add this one without additional costs. Summary: It’s a nice camera, with lots of features. If you need a camera that can be placed just about anywhere, check this one out.

The Ring Spotlight Cam Battery is part of Ring’s latest Retinal 2k lineup featuring enhancing image quality, night vision, advanced motion detection with zone management, two-way audio, and more. As a Ring user for the past 4 years and testing several of their models, this Spotlight 2k camera has some benefits in terms of flexibility and is an improvement from older cameras with 1080p resolution, however, leaves a little to be desired. IN THE BOX: - Battery Spotlight Cam (Two Battery Slots, One Battery Included) - USB-C Power Adapter - Camera Mount + Hardware - Sticker - User Manual SETUP: Ring cameras are extremely easy to set up, especially if you’re a current Ring user. This camera comes with a 30 day trial of Ring Protect, one of their paid plans with additional benefits such as up to 180 Days of Video Event History, unlimited devices at one location, person, package, and vehicle notifications, extended warranties, and more. After scanning the QR code on the camera within the Ring app, it prompted for a software update to be performed which only took about 1 minute. BUILD QUALITY: The Battery Spotlight Cam is very similar in construction to their products from the last several years. It is larger in physical size than the wired version of their cameras due to the LED lights that flank the camera on either side as well as the dual battery slots for extra runtime. It has no mounting location on the button or top of the camera but there are two rear mounting locations. This allows for the camera to be hung from the side of a house, under an eve, or other similar locations. It is also equipped with a USB-C port for plug-in power if you have an outlet nearby. FEATURES/VIDEO QUALITY: With the new Retinal 2K lineup, Ring promises enhanced video quality, enhanced zoom capability up to 6x, and generally better performance. Most of their camera lineup can be equipped with either Battery, Plug-In/Wired, and POE options for different setups and use cases. The battery versions typically have slightly reduced performance (motion detection) in my experience due to energy saving measures vs their wired counterparts. The image quality of this 2k camera is acceptable but nowhere near their 4K lineup. This would be the new minimum resolution that I would recommend to anyone looking for a wireless security system. This resolution allows for capturing more details such as vehicle make/models (but likely not license plates) or people vs older 1080p cameras. The spotlight is rated at 550 Lumens of output at 3000k color temperature which is enough output for very small patios or similar areas but nowhere near enough light for backyards or larger areas. The throw of the light is roughly 12-15 feet in front of the camera, at most. One feature I really enjoy is the Lutron + Ring integration. This allows for the Ring cameras to activate Lutron smart switches (aka lights) whenever motion is detected by the cameras. If you have this system, I would recommend a Ring camera without the Spotlight and utilize larger wall lights or sconces on your house rather than lesser output Ring camera lights. If you don’t have a Lutron system, the Ring Spotlight cameras do add some flexibility for additional lighting or motion lighting. APP: After using the Ring app for over 4 years, I find it really great in some areas and really poor in others. I find the camera previews and accessory light controls very easy to access. The history and timelines for devices is pretty straightforward as well. When it comes to the different modes, scheduling devices, and things like this, it can be a little confusing. It is important to note that if you don’t want law enforcement being able to access your camera footage during investigations or other relevant searches that you must opt out of this function. This is also true for the lost pet feature recently introduced. Likes: - Dual Battery Slot - Lutron + Ring Integration - Design/Mounting Flexibility - Ring App Customization Dislikes: - Older Micro USB Battery Included - Motion Detection Consistency - LED Light Output OVERALL: The Ring Battery Spotlight Camera 2k is an acceptable camera for those that need flexibility in placement (battery) and want some sort of lighting around a door, patio, or garage but the light output is very limited. The motion detection was hit or miss with my testing vs wired/plug in models even with the sensitivity all the way up. If you’re using Ring hardware from several years ago AND are able to plug in the devices, I would recommend opting for the 4K lineup for the best performance and video quality. The 2k lineup offers a good entry point into the Ring ecosystem with competitive image quality and feature set.

My expectations I have many different ring camera types, so much expectations are always the same. I expect the camera to be well designed, easy to add to an existing subscription, easy to install, and easy to use. Initial Thoughts This is possibly the largest, non flood light camera I’ve seen so far. It’s so large in fact that it has two battery slots, but it only comes with one… I’m guessing unless I buy another battery, the battery lift won’t be as great as it would with two. What’s in the box? Out of the box you get the camera, a battery, the good ‘ol orange USB-A to micro USB cable, a back mount, wall anchors and screws. Try it out As I stated earlier, the Ring cameras are easy to add onto an existing subscription. If you don’t have a subscription, you will need one to take full advantages of the app that the camera is linked to. The best engineered part of the Ring cameras as always been how easy it is to mount one. If you know how to use a power drill, then you’ll be okay. This camera has a light on the front that goes off with motion activation. It is pretty bright. It’s not flood lights level bright, but if you’re putting it somewhere around your house, it will illuminate that area quite well. I really don’t like how they only provided one battery when there are two slots. You can always plug in a cable and make the camera wired as well. The only thing I cannot wrap my head around is the oblong shape of the bottom of the camera. You can’t really stand it up on its own, it HAS to be mounted. Thoughts The camera is nice and clear. 2K imaging/video is easy to see. Night vision works well too. The app is simple and responsive. You can see live feeds, control the motion detection zone, and use the mic and speaker to talk to people over the camera in real time. I have a suspicion that I will be recharging the battery on this camera quite often unless I buy another one or make this a wired camera. The likes I do like how big it is, and the bright lights. The dislikes I really don’t like the inclusion of one battery… Why Amazon, why not just include 2??? What’s one thing I would change? You know my answer is going to be the inclusion of 2 batteries, or just one big fat one. Verdict Despite, it’s one glaring flaw, I still like the camera, and I would recommend it anybody who needs a security camera.

OK, in my house, I have a mixture of Ring camera's and Google Nest cameras. Being a part of this program, I have a, you lot of experience testing many brands of camera's, and in my experience, you truly do get what you pay for. The premium is worth it with the Ring. My experience with battery camera's is mixed. With some battery camera's, maintaining the battery can feel like a part-time job. The cool feature with these camera's is two-fold: first, the batteries are big, and hold more charge than most. Second, these camera's have two battery slots. So when one goes low, the camera automatically switches to the other battery. Then you can replace the low battery with a previously charged one. Twice the life, half the time managing batteries. Great design. The mounting options for these cameras are great. You can put them almost anywhere, inside or out, basement, garage, pool, pool house, greenhouse... Pretty much anywhere. If you don't have the Ring app already, you'll need to get it and get an account. If you do have one, adding the unit is simple. The picture is great. The light is, well... It's bright enough. The app offers tons of control, is intuitive, and offers great options. End of the day, I would reccomend to a friend.

I was very happy to get the new Ring Spotlight Camera. Compared to the previous model I owned, this version is slightly narrower and taller, while keeping the dual spotlights positioned on either side of the lens. During installation, I was glad to see that this model still has space for two batteries which was a feature I loved on the older version. While it only requires a single battery to operate, the second slot allows you to keep a backup ready to go. I initially had an issue with the battery holding its charge, but after giving it a full recharge a couple of times, it has held up exceptionally well. I also chose to connect it to Ring’s solar charging panel for added peace of mind. Mounting was much smoother this time around, and overall setup was surprisingly easy. Syncing it with my existing Ring devices through the app took no time at all. I was very impressed with the camera's resolution. The 140-degree field of view does a fantastic job covering areas that used to be blind spots. I mounted mine on the northeast wall of our home, which gets direct sunlight from 1:00 PM until sunset, meaning it gets extremely hot during the summer. Thankfully, it has an operating limit of up to 122°F, and so far, it has handled the heat without issue. Checking the live view (both day and night) yields a remarkably crisp and sharp image. The 2K video resolution is stunningly clear. My only real critique is the zoom: even with the 6x enhanced zoom feature, the zoomed-in picture isn't quite as sharp as I would have expected. At night, the infrared night vision is so clear that I actually prefer using it over the integrated spotlights. Overall, I’m extremely confident in the coverage this camera provides. It's a solid, reliable upgrade from the previous generation, and I highly recommend it.

I have multiple generations of Ring products at this point, and they all work really well together. No notable bug/glitch/hicccups. The latest spotlight Ring has a few upgrades. The video is now upgraded to 2k, there's a 6x zoom function, these are the obvious and it's right in the front of the commercial box. I think in practice, it's a little smoother also in video. Videos when paused appear less pixelated. And the 6x zoom is nice, improved from previous gen, but still appears pixelated when up close... which is to be expected. Other notable things I noticed is the night vision is also improved. I think that's very important for spotlight cams. In situations where you don't have lighting (first few seconds of a dark clip or you intentionally have the camera off, or quite simply during idle moments of the video feed), the image is clearly superior when compared to previous gen. Distant objects/imagery is clearer, and with the added zoom, it's nice to be able to zero in on far away objects. The audio is about the same, at least from a non technical observation. Both microphone/speaker appears roughly the same as previous generation. Battery life varies by use, and I can't tell exactly, but feels simila to previous gen. Overall, I think the biggest selling point is the video quality and the clarity when zooming in on interesting subjects if needed. It's good enough where I think serious owners have to consider upgrading. It may not be for everyone, but for those that want the absolute highest quality video quality, that needs a motion activated spotlight, in the Ring ecosystem, I think it's a must. See image samples

This is my third Ring component. I’ve had a couple of Ring doorbells, but that has been it. For me, an outdoor camera needed to have a light, be battery operated, and have a strong wireless connection because it is mounted on the outskirts of my WiFi network. The Spotlight cam has met all these requirements. Set up was very easy. I attached it on the side of my house, screwing it into a metal plate that combines as the vent for my kitchen vent. Using the iOS app, I was able to get it installed and set up in about a half hour. One of the things I really like about the Spotlight cam is it does have the automatic light that will come on when it sense motion. And it is smart enough to know that it doesn’t have to do that during the daylight hours. I have this mounted on a side of the house that gets no light at night, so not only does it benefit me by turning on when I am on that side of the house, it also deters anyone who might decide to enter my backyard via that side gate. Battery life is excellent. I’ve had it mounted for over a week now, and the battery has only dropped 6%. There is also a slot for a second battery, which I will be picking up. At this rate, I can see this Spotlight cam lasting months between charges. That is impressive!!!! Video quality is decent. There is a built in siren that doesn’t get really loud, but is nice to have. All in all, this is a great addition to the Ring family.

The Ring Spotlight Camera Battery (2nd Gen), is excellent for lighting up dark areas, like in front of a garage. It has a wide angle, 2k video, 6X enhanced zoom, motion activated spot lighting, customable motion zones (using the Ring App), adjustable lumens, and scheduling (these are done through the Ring App), adjustable positioning of the camera itself for maximum motion coverage. The setup is quick and easy even just using a WiFi extender. I was able to set it within 10 minutes by connecting it to my WiFi extender in my garage for the best connection. After it’s set up, the Ring Camera automatically starts doing all the updates necessary to function properly. That only took about 10 minutes. The Ring Spotlight Camera comes with one battery partially charged, but it does have dual battery capabilities. I had an extra battery that was fully charged so I also installed that too. I will be installing a solar panel (sold separately) so that I don’t have to keep climbing the ladder to charge either or both batteries. The rechargeable batteries can be replaced easily with Ring’s Quick Release. The Ring Spotlight Camera has a 140-degree horizontal view and an 83-degree vertical view. Plenty of visuals from the top of my garage, driveway, and part of my backyard. The Spotlight is bright enough to light up approximately 20 feet from the door of the garage down the driveway and on the sides of the driveway as well. The temperature range is -4º F to 122º F in the shade and -4º F to 115º F in more sunny conditions. As a safety function, the Ring Spotlight Camera may shut off temporarily during extreme cold or heat. It will function normally again as soon as the temperature reaches the proper temperature range. It is possible for the Ring Spotlight Camera to shut down if exposed to direct sunlight and extreme heat. The box contains the Ring Spotlight Camera, one Quick Release Battery (installed), Camera mount, screws with anchors, installation tools, USB-C power adapter (for indoor charging and outdoor charging with other accessories). It also includes a setup guide with instructions on how to mount the Camera as well as how to connect it. FEATURES: - Retinal 2k with 6X enhanced zoom (gets a little grainy at the zoom). I found that 4x works best for the clearest videos. - Motion activated spotlight- built in siren, turn on lights automatically when the camera detects motion and active the siren all with one tap in the Ring App. - Get instant mobile alerts (when set) for motion detection. - Live view and 2-way talk in real time. - Mount anywhere-weather resistant security with multiple power options (using the Ring App) - Ring App – with the app, set up motion zones, videos, video length, and any other specific functions can be customized to user’s preferences. The Ring Spotlight Battery Cam (2nd Gen) can be focused on key areas around your home or business with bright lights, motion activation, and clear videos in color both day and night. At night, the color can be activated through the Ring App. It will capture videos in IR (black and white) by default. Using the Color Night Vision feature you can keep the night videos in color. NEGATIVES: - If mounted high, a ladder is needed to change the battery/batteries, for charging. Keeping at least one battery fully charged will lessen the need to keep climbing a ladder. - The Ring Spotlight Camera uses a USB-C port for charging. If connecting to a solar panel, an adapter is needed to convert the round wire of the panel to the USB-C port on the Camera. - Although the Ring Spotlight Camera and go up to 6X zoom, I don’t recommend it. The video gets very grainy and pixilated at that strength. I just go up to 4X zoom and that’s perfect to keep the 2K video clear. Overall, I’m incredibly pleased with the Ring Spotlight Camera. I had mine mounted at the top of my garage (that’s why I’m going to invest in a solar panel). I’d need a very tall ladder to remove the batteries to recharge them. I do like the fact that I can now come home at night and not be in the dark. I do recommend the Ring Spotlight Battery Camera (2nd Gen), for its versatility in the motion functions, mounting anywhere it’s needed, its 2-battery power pack, bright lights, and the wide angle views.

This newest model Ring Spotlight Cam (battery) is a fantastic upgrade to the previous Ring camera I had out front of my house, so much so, I am planning to replace the other Ring cameras around my property with these new versions! First off, mounting. Unfortunately, if you have previous Ring cameras mounted, the mounting pattern of the base for the camera is not the same as previous models, so you will have to drill more/new holes when mounting. Fortunately the base size is about the same, so you are able to cover up your previous holes with the base. Once mounted (I used my previous solar panel to power/charge this battery camera - I did need to add my own adapter from the proprietary Ring power adapter to a USB-C connector, as Ring has switched up the power connection) I was able to hang the camera in the same position that I had my previous camera in. The first thing I noticed was how much wider of an angle the view was, I was able to see all the way across the street and see much further up and down the street than was ever possible with the previous camera. This itself is superb, but the quality of that video image was so much better as well! With the ability to zoom in 6x, you are able to get much clearer detail and see more of the area that you need to monitor. The spotlights are a nice added touch, they light up well, and you can control them independently from within the Ring app, so you can turn them on and off as you so choose. Having the camera hooked up to a Ring Solar Panel gives peace of mind that you don't have to constantly worry about battery life. Having used Ring products for a long time now, the app is very intuitive and the alerts and notifications you receive are very important. You can differentiate between vehicles, people and other motion sources. You can also create motion zones, so for example, in my images, I have put a boundary at the edge of my property, so I don't get alerts for every car that goes down my street, but if there is someone on the sidewalk or in my driveway, I get alerted. Overall, really happy with this upgrade to my external security, the quality of the images is worth it alone, but the spotlight feature I never had before illuminates the way, and the AI generated notifications of what is happening outside are a really nice touch as well. This camera is slightly larger than previous models, but thankfully it still fit where I had my previous one installed.

I have a handful of Ring devices around the house but this is my first outdoor security camera and I was glad to see it's offered in 2K resolution. The main reason I have stayed in the Ring ecosystem is the app. Having one place to pull up all of my cameras is convenient, but I also like the feature set including the Neighbors section. This is the 2K model with the wide angle lens and motion activated spotlights running on a rechargeable battery. When running cameras outdoors I prefer not to have to plug-in so the battery power is the option I want. - Unboxing - Opening it up, everything you need to get going is in the box. You get the camera itself, the mount, one rechargeable battery pack, the mounting hardware, a charging cable, the setup guide, a security sticker for the yard, and the paperwork. It's simple packaging and gives you only what you need to get started. The battery is in the camera. - Design & Build - It's a clean white and black housing with two LED spotlights at 550 lumens. It feels solid in my hands and well sealed for rain and water. The battery is inside the unit. It unlocks and twists on the bottom to open. You remove a light cardboard insert and you actually eject the battery compartment up to remove the battery and charge. There's an extra slot to store another battery so you can actually run 2 batteries at once, great idea. - Living with it - This is where the Ring camera really stands out. I can open the Ring app and see this camera lined up next to all my other Ring devices in one view, and jumping between them is quick and easy. That single view convenience is a big part of why I keep everything in one ecosystem. You will want a paid subscription to get the full set of features and to save your recordings. I run the unlimited device plan, which lets me put as many devices on it as I want with cloud storage, so adding this camera didn't change anything about how I'm already set up. One thing I do wish it had is an SD card slot for local storage. It doesn't, so everything lives in the cloud. Installation was about as easy as it gets. I put it up on my back porch and drilled the mount right into the overhang, and it installed easily. I just dialed in the angle and then slid it onto the mount. - Performance - Resolution is good. The 2K picture is a clear step up and details look sharp in the app, but one thing I noticed is the sharpness depends on how much area you're asking it to cover and how strong your Wi-Fi is. The smaller the space and it's crisp. If you ask it to cover a wide, open area and it can look a little softer. A lot of that comes back to your wifi connection too, and what's convenient is that the Ring app actually shows you your signal strength, so you're not guessing. I started out on my 2.4 GHz network, which is busy with everything else in the house, and moving it over to my 5 GHz network made a difference. Having the dual-band option to do that is genuinely useful, and I'd tell anyone with a crowded 2.4 GHz network to try the 5 GHz side or vice versa. The spotlights are nice and bright. When they kick on they light up the porch well, which is exactly what I wanted out of a spotlight cam. The camera is responsive too. It reacts quickly and does what I ask without lag when I pull it up. - Battery life - Based on the battery performance I'm getting, it looks like I'll get about 2 weeks. A lot of this depends on the frequency of the notifications and the spotlights, this can all be tuned in from the app too. If you add a second battery you can effectively double this. - Pros/Cons - *Pros* * 2K video is sharp * Dual band WiFi * Motion activated spotlights are bright * Ring App is polished and feature rich * Room for a second battery pack * Battery power means no wiring * Responsive when I access it through the app *Suggestions/Needs Improvement* * No SD card slot * Subscription required to access all features * Sharpness drops depending on WiFi signal I picked up this one because of the quality of the hardware and the app, and it's in 2K resolution. Setup was quick, spotlights are bright, and the battery makes it convenient. Surprisingly, the battery is lasting about 2 weeks between charges. The video quality will depend on your Wi-Fi connection but adding dual-band support helps with that. There's a weatherproof USB-C input on the back you can use. I would recommend this to anyone. It's a creative design.

This new Ring Spotlight Cam (with Wide-Angle Retinal 2K Video, 6x Enhanced Zoom, and Motion-Activated Spotlights) is a solid security-cam with helpful improvements over earlier versions. Setup is pretty much what you’d expect. Charge the battery while downloading the app - and then use the app to guide you through the setup and installation process. For those already using the Ring eco-system, all of this is familiar, and it makes adding the new Spotlight Cam to your system easy. The Ring Spotlight Cam (newest model) brings upgrades in image and audio quality, and zone sensitivity. The spotlight is strong without being glaring and it’s so helpful for getting a better image of what’s in the camera’s viewing area. I do wish the battery was charged with an USB-C rather than a mini-USB, but you can use a USB-C to charge the battery - if you uncover the port on the back of the camera case. But this may require more flexibility in your installation than you desire. The slot for a second battery, which can be used for extending the time between charging, is wonderful. Ring security devices are a trusted brand with proven, reliable performance. Though this newest model of their Spotlight Cam does not offer sensational new features, it does bring welcome, incremental improvements. And that reinforces the long-term value of being in the Ring eco-system. We’re very pleased to have added it to ours.

I’ve had the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery (2nd Gen) for a little while now and got a lot out of it. The installation was quick, the Ring app took me through it step by step and within minutes I had connected the camera and the monitoring in place just where I wanted it to be. The live view was quick, the motion detection has been good and the spotlight is bright enough to really help at night without getting overwhelming. I also like how it connects well to the Ring ecosystem as well. If you already have Ring devices, this camera is really as easy to add. Video quality is excellent both during the day and at night and I like to have the ability to customize motion zones so I’m not getting alerts every time a car drives by. Battery life has also been respectable based on my usage, and swapping batteries is simple if you keep a spare charged. The charging connection on the battery was the one thing that I was really surprised by—and not in a good way. For Ring to market this as one of its current products is so disappointing that the removable battery still charges through a Micro-USB port. USB-C has become the standard for almost everything from phones and tablets to cameras and flashlights in 2026, and for this battery having to carry a Micro-USB cable is a step back. That complaint aside, even with the Micro-USB port on the battery the camera perfoms well, but its just disappointing. Strong and clear video quality, reliable notifications, easy setup and solid integration with the Ring platform and app make it an easy recommendation. I just hope the next hardware revision finally leaves Micro-USB behind because that’s really the only thing keeping this from feeling like a completely modern security camera.

This Ring Battery Spotlight Camera (2nd Gen, newest model) Wide-Angle Retinal 2K Video with 6x Enhanced Zoom is a step up from the previous model we have as part of our Ring security system we’ve always used since moving into our home. We have an older model spotlight cam positioned at the front left corner of the house, just under the roof line. However, for quite a while now, we’ve been having issues with the device losing signal and overall not performing optimally, which kinda defeats the purpose. So this new Ring Spotlight Camera will be replacing that “faulty” device. Since we have an entire Ring eco-system already in place, adding this new spotlight camera to our account in the app was a simple procedure. After scanning the QR code, the Ring app takes you through the setup process. Then you can customize your new spotlight cam’s settings. Once you decide where to place the device, installation is easy enough with the included hardware. Right off the bat I can definitely see how different this device looks compared to that previous generation Ring spotlight camera. Yet it’s basically the same, except for the upgrades to the features and hardware. I did notice the improvement in visual quality of this spotlight cam in comparison to our current device. Video is crisper, showing more detail, with less blurriness or pixelization. Design of the side lights is much better and they appear to be brighter as a result of the 550 lumens. The audio sounds clearer, yet there is still a slight delay in audio responsiveness, as with our previous model. So far we’ve not experienced those frustrating ‘lost connection’ issues, however. The Battery Compartment really stands out to me, as to how it’s designed. There’s a ‘press down’ tab that lifts the battery holder up, so that you can get to the metal tab to push and release the battery in order to lift it out. Very convenient. There are two slots for two batteries, although only one is included. You can, of course, buy another. The texturized look of the bottom “twist to lock/unlock” cover part, where the battery compartment is located, is nice. While there are many choices out there for home security devices, Ring has served us well for many years, with very few issues. This newest model 2nd Gen Ring Spotlight Camera with Battery has some great feature and build improvements. Recommend.

I chose the Ring Spotlight Cam Battery (2nd Gen) over other battery-powered security cameras because I wanted a simple installation without wiring, and built-in spotlights for added security at night. It offered a good balance of features, video quality, and ease of use. The camera has a clean, modern look, and the white color blends nicely with light-colored walls and trim. It doesn't stand out too much, giving it a neat and professional appearance once installed. Installation was one of the biggest advantages. Everything needed for mounting was included, and the quick-release battery made setup fast without having to run power cables. It took only a few minutes to get the camera mounted, connected to Wi-Fi, and ready to use through the Ring app. The Retinal 2K video is sharp and provides clear daytime and nighttime footage. The wide-angle view covers a large area, and the enhanced zoom is helpful for checking details like faces or package labels. The motion-activated spotlights are bright enough to light up dark areas, and the built-in siren adds another layer of security if needed. The Ring app is easy to navigate and lets you quickly access live view, customize motion zones, receive alerts, and use two-way talk. If you already own other Ring devices, they integrate seamlessly for a more complete home security system. I do have more than 9 Ring outdoor cameras like Floodlight, wired cameras so this one integrated well to my eco system where the wiring is not option and had dead spot. If you're looking for a reliable outdoor camera with excellent video quality, bright spotlights, and a simple setup process, it's a great value and an easy recommendation.

Ring has released their 2nd gen spotlight security camera. The camera features 2K video, motion detection, rechargeable battery, LED lights, and two-way talk. The video resolution is good. It would be nice to see this with 4K, but Ring has at least stepped it up to 2k over HD. The LED lights have up to 550 lumens. This isn’t very bright, but it is bright enough to illuminate an area close to the camera. If someone needs an area near it light up when a person walks by, it will be enough for the person to see where they are walking. The camera uses night vision which works well. The LED lights aren’t needed for the camera to record at night, so to me, it is only helpful to light up the area around where I step out of my vehicle so I can see a little better when getting out and walking toward my back door. I’m glad Ring added the LED lights. Doing so gives me the option to enable or disable them. There are plenty of features in the Ring app. I do like Ring’s app and the options I have for this camera and my doorbell camera. The app features are certainly a plus. Given where I have the camera, I’m not likely to use the spotlight camera’s two-way talk feature, but it does work and it’s good to have the option to use it if I wanted to. I customized what this camera does in each mode which is really helpful. This is a good 2K camera with top notch options within the app. The plans for the camera are also good. As long as Ring can keep the pricing the way it is without increasing it over time, then I’m good with their plans. It comes with one rechargeable battery which lasts a long time. It has slots for two. It would be good if a 2nd battery came with it, but I can buy a 2nd rechargeable battery later. It also comes with what I needed to mount the camera. If you are looking for a security camera that is 2K, has good night vision, rechargeable battery, and has really good features, but don’t need a bright LED light, then consider Ring’s 2nd gen spotlight camera. This would be good for most people needing an outdoor security camera.

One advice I have for anybody trying to decide to purchase similar cameras is one, you should try to go with one brand only. The headache of having cameras that require different apps and/or different smart assistants is not worth the lower cost you might pay. Believe me, I have tried many different cameras, and I decided to stick to Ring for compatibility reasons and for quality and most of my related headaches are gone forever. Connecting it was very easy using the QR code and all my smart assistants were happy adding it to the existing ecosystem. While I wish it was 4K, 2K still very good and since they emphasized quality over higher resolution, it is much better than a no-brand 4K camera I still own. And differently than that camera, connectivity is solid over my Wi-Fi in the same location. Night vision is so good just like my Ring doorbell camera. The zoom function seems to be digital, not optical, but for all purposes, I can’t tell the difference. It is limited to 6x, but I don’t have any need for more than that. More important to me is the wide angle and zone settings since I don’t want to be bothered every time somebody passes by on the street. I find it amusing that it can recognize people and even delivery people like Amazon drivers. Audio is not perfect but is clear and that is what matters. Image quality matters the most and it is very good, day and night. What is not so great and just like my doorbell, sometimes it fails when you go to live view mode. I don’t know if that’s an app or hardware issue, but it happens frequently. I’m assuming it’s an app issue. Another issue is that Ring should get rid of any USB connectivity that is not USB-C. This is 2026 after all and USB-C is the only de-facto standard. Period. The battery still uses the old-fashioned mini-USB. Fortunately, the camera itself comes with a USB-C that can be used directly to charge that battery using a solar panel. That’s what I used for my setup and hopefully, I will never need to remove and charge the battery directly.

Loving this new Ring Spotlight cam! I've upgraded from the previous version not really expecting much, Boy was I wrong! Wider field of view, yet still crystal HD clear. Zoomed completely out (or is it in?) things in the distance are much clearer than the previous version. Sound quality is also slightly better with less ambient noise. Talkback works well, however there is the typical delay. The batteries are easier to remove and load, a definite improvement. Battery life is on par with the previous version. Keep in mind, how you set it up will affect battery life. Zone setup is intuitive and easy to do through the app. If you already have Ring service, this is a breeze to set up. Took me less than 10 minutes to connect my new Spotlight cam to my network. Installation is easy, but I have 1 con. You can't use the previous version mount to install. If you have a previous Spotlight cam, you'll need to remove the wall mount. The screw holes don't match the previous version either, so if installing in the same spot as a previous version, you'll be making new holes. No big deal, but it's worth mentioning. If you're new to ring or want to upgrade without running wires, definitely recommend this for your home security system.
