About this product
It's already a tradition at the opening of the Innsbruck Festival there's a baroque opera rediscovery. This time it is InchL' Idalma overo Chi dura la vinceInch - InchIdalma, or Whoever perseveres winsInch by Bernardo Pasquini. Competing against Alessandro Scarlatti, Pasqini composed his InchIdalmaInch in the Roman Carnival of 1680. It is about marital fidelity and steadfast love themes that were already a favorite of Italian noble houses in the 17th century, and Bernardo Pasquini was, after all, in the service of the Roman Borghese family for over forty years. Together with Giovanna Barbati, conductor and artistic director of the Festwochen Alessandro de Marchi has created a new version of the work, which has been forgotten for some 350 years, based on the composer's own handwriting. This version dispenses with lengthy musical repetitions and instead scores with a fireworks display of affects brilliant arias full of expressivity and power, instrumental richness, sweeping ensembles and a sensitive musical design that takes full account of the permanent change of affects and dramatic situations. In 2016, almost three hundred years after the composition of Georg Caspar Schurmann's Die getreue Alceste, Barockwerk Hamburg presented a semi-scenic performance of this opera in the atrium of the Hamburg State Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Culture. Ira Hochman founded the ensemble Barockwerk Hamburg in 2007 with the goal of rediscovering both vocal and instrumental chamber and stage music from the Baroque era and bring it back to life. The ensemble draws particularly often from the rich tradition of Hamburg, which not only attracted numerous great musicians during the 17th and 18th centuries, but also the public and patrons from all over Northern Europe. The permanent cast of Barockwerk Hamburg consists of 15 instrumentalists and singers. However, the ensemble cooperates closely with other Baroque specialists and adapts the cast to the requirements of different programs. It's members include musicians with international experience as well as up and coming talents from Hamburg University of Music and Drama. Album Tracks 1. Die Getreue Alceste 2. Ouverture 3. Atto 1 4. The first and presumably only performance of the opera Dafne took place in Torgau on April 13, 1627, as part of the festivities celebrating the marriage of the Saxon Duchess Sophie Eleonore and the Hessian Landgrave Georg II. Although the libretto by Martin Opitz appeared in print, virtually nothing of the music has survived. At first glance, the reconstruction of an opera whose music has not survived appears to be a daring undertaking. In fact, however, there are many clues to the structure of the work, so that it was possible to produce something that, although not identical to the original, is very close to it. In all, there are a dozen mostly secular works by Schütz in the present reconstruction by conductor Roland Wilson, making up about half of the entire opera. Says Wilson himself, InchYou'll hear some glorious pieces by Schütz and his contemporaries that you probably never would have listened to otherwise.Inch Album Tracks 1. Dafne Opera in 5 Scenes, Torgau 1627 (Musical Reconstruction By Roland Wilson) 2. Intrada 3. Der Vorredner (Ovidius) 4. Der Erste Act (Drei Hirten, Apollo, Nymfen) 5. Der Andere Act (Venus, Cupido, Apollo, Drei Hirten) 6. Der Dritte Act (Dafne, Apollo, Drei Hirten, Nymfen) 7. Der Vierdte Act (Venus, Cupido, Drei Hirten) 8. Der Fünffte Act (Dafne, Apollo, Nymfen Und Hirten)
![Telemann / Potter / Skuplik - Missa & Cantatas Countertenor - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/60cb3b8d-26a8-4dea-9790-8737a048526a.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Alex Potter - praised by the press as Incha rising star in the world of countertenorsInch - interprets sacred works by Telemann for cpo on this album. The setting of Psalm 6 continues to be thoroughly obliged to the tone of the sacred concertos of the seventeenth century associated with names such as Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Rosenmüller, and Johann Schelle. However, even though this psalm setting entitled InchAch, Herr strafe mich nichtInch very much resembles similar works by older authors, it nevertheless displays a very special aura. Accompanied by two violins and basso continuo, an affectively nuanced narrative of a soul plagued by fear and hoping for the end of it's torments is heard. The Missa in B minor is similar in style to the music of the psalm; it is what is known as a Lutheran »short mass,« which with it's Kyrie and Gloria merely consists of two compositional complexes. All the numbers comprising InchMe miserumInch concern the faithful soul, which tells it's story, is aware of it's insufficiency but does not yield to despair, and therefore is able to register it's experience of faith. A sonata and two fugues round off the album. Album Tracks 1. Ach Herr, Strafe Mich Nicht Mit Deinem Zorn', TVWV 7 1 2. Fuga XIX TWV 30 19 3. Missa H-Moll, TVWV 9 14 4. Fuga V TWV 30 5 5. 'Me Miserum! Miseriarum', TVWV 1 1135 6. Sonata TWV 41 G1 7. 'Ich Wand're Fort', TVWV 7 1 (Aus Der Kantate 'Meines Bleibens Ist Nicht Hier', TVWV 1 1100)
