About this product
CPO's series featuring productions by the Dresden State Operetta has quickly gained renown with it's discoveries of unknown works by Johann Strauss. When the same theater presented an extremely successful new production of Jacques Offenbach's rarely staged La Perichole during the 2008 season, CPO immediately decided to produce this masterpiece in the studio. The State Operetta had commissioned the cabaret performer and author Peter Ensikat to supply a new translation, and it was with superb wit that he accomplished the task of updating the satirical double meanings in Offenbach's libretto and the references to current events of the composer's times without losing the charm of the original. In musical matters the production oriented itself by the three-act second version of this masterpiece set in faraway Lima; it was written for Vienna in 1874 and is filled to overflowing with original melodies. CPO included the numbers written especially for Vienna and it's then operetta diva Marie Geistinger as special bonuses. The result an all-around successful operetta production and spirited listening fun! Album Tracks 1. Overture 2. Der Vizekonig Hat Geburtstag Heute 3. Dialogue 4. Reprise 5. Dialogue 6. Der Vizekonig, Haltet Still... Ich Kenn Mein Volk 7. Dialogue 8. Indianischer Marsch Und Auftritt Der Sanger 9. Dialogue 10. Zur Eingebor'nen Sprach Der Stolze Krieger 11. Dialogue 12. Wie Oft Hat Man Versucht 13. Dialogue 14. Wenn Man Uns Gut Unterhalt 15. Dialogue 16. Mein Lieber Pequillo 17. Perichole! Ein Brief? 18. Dialogue 19. Holla He! Kommt Schnell Heran 20. Entracte 21. Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) - saint, mystic, poet, composer and polymath. She was one of the great female figures of the Middle Ages, was a monastery founder and abbess. Her knowledge, her writings and especially her compositions have found renewed great interest in our modern times. The Christophorus tag has released several albums with the chants of Saint Hildegard over the last four decades and now presents them collected as a 5-album box set. The oldest recording was made by the Hamburg early music specialist Helga Weber and her ensemble in 1980; it is probably the earliest recording of music by Hildegard von Bingen ever made. They are joined by two productions by the ensemble für frühe musik augsburg, which is one of the early renowned ensembles of medieval music. Sabine Lutzenberger was also part of this ensemble, who today can easily be described as the most experienced singer of Hildegard's chants. In her recording from 2013 with her own ensemble Per-Sonat, she makes her great knowledge perceptible in a very intimate interpretation. In their InchHommage to HildegardInch, the Estampie ensemble combines medieval music with modern music theatre and elements of pop in a Inchcross overInch. The focus is on Hildegard's reflections and music on the four elements.
