Salem's Lot based on Stephen King's novel of the same name is an enjoyable movie despite it's slow pace. The movie was released on tv in 2 parts during the 70's. It stars acting legend James Mason as one of the villains and was directed by Tobe Hooper who made Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The movie has a spooky atmosphere which overcomes some of the wooden performances. Unlike most made-for-tv movies, Salem's Lot was shot on film, not video, which makes this an impressive hi-def presentation. I wanted to watch this movie many years ago when I was child. I don't remember why I missed the premiere, but I am glad that I watched it on blu-ray for the first time. The picture quality is outstanding. Salem's Lot may not compare to today's best horror movies, but it still is creepy

Though this was made for TV, on blu ray it looks far more polished and cinematic. A true classic, only reason I did not give it 5 stars is there are zero special features. For me audio commentary and a making of featurette should be mandatory, I cannot stand bare bones blu rays. Other than that, again the movie looks and sounds great, just beware it is full frame.

I watched Salem's Lot when it first aired on network TV and absolutely loved it! Very atmospheric and suspenseful - now finally gets the Blu Ray treatment and looks great - holds up quite well!

I bought the blu-ray on a whim and I was transported back to my childhood watching this. Still holds up and is another reason why Tobe Hooper was a horror legend of a director.

More years ago than I care to remember, 'Salem's Lot was the first book I ever read by Stephen King. I have always been a horror fan, in books & movies, and though this filmed 'Salem's Lot was a TV film, it was very well done and retained it's scary atmosphere. Coincidentally, I reread the book not long ago when recovering from an operation, and it held up well. When I had the opportunity to pick up the Blu Ray recently, I took it and I must say, I probably enjoyed it even more this time around than I did originally back in the 70's.(Seems like a long time ago!) David Soul was never a favorite actor of mine, but he did a very creditable job in the lead role in this film. Tobe Hooper is a very experienced Horror Film director, having done the classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre, among many others, so all the elements clicked together well. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a creepy evenings viewing.

This film scared me as a kid. It is a classic adaption of the King novel. The Blu-ray looks good for a '70s made for TV film. I highly recommend this for any horror fan.

This movie looks so much better on Blu Ray!! It looked awful on VHS and that’s really what got me uninterested in it when I was younger...I could hear the people talk very well and the darn lighting was AWFUL! I’m so glad that it looks and sounds so much better now!! This is a classic Stephen King horror movie for sure! Definitely worth checking out if you’re into vampires and Stephen King books or movies!!

Salem's Lot, while not the most popular horror film out there, is made of the same ilk that the classics are and is a worthy viewing for any even casual fan of the genre. It creates a dense, consistent and creepy atmosphere that very much lends itself to the vampiric mythos that the film so passionately nourishes. The blu-ray transfer of this release is strong and I am also glad that the full-screen aspect ratio was kept intact as opposed to it being cropped to widescreen (and, in effect, losing part of its picture). At any rate, I highly recommend this gem to anyone with even a remote interest in horror films.

Have been wanting this for a long time... I didn't realize that it was an episodic release originally, but that kind of makes it neat too. Played this on our new 75" 4K tv and It really made the difference to the enjoyment and almost immersive. This reminds me of Escape from Witch Mountain - so Very Disney-Like. - Classic of the era. Enjoy the Show!~

Salem's Lot is originally a Stephen King novel from the 70's. A little short on the blood because it was a TV movie, but still a great flick!

A really scary movie without the gore. One of the best Steven King stories put to film. An absolute must see for fans of horror. The full length movie as it originally broadcast on TV.

I haven’t seen this in years and was happy to see it on a Blu-ray. I’m very happy with this transfer. The colors are vibrant and the score sounds great as well.

Love this movie when I was younger and am enjoying it as an adult as well. The transfer to Blu-ray was done well along with the audio.

I saw this movie when it originally aired in the 1970's and remember all the kids talking about it at school the next day. I hadn't seen it since then and didn't remember too much from it, except the floating vampire kid, and the bald vampire that looks like Nosferatu. It was pretty good. The BluRay looks nice but I didn't consider that it wouldn't be widescreen, since it probably wasn't filmed that way. Still, it was worth the purchase and both my kids enjoyed it without getting too scared.
