Unavailable for over 20 years, In The Beginning There Was Rhythm was Soul Jazz Records first foray into post-punk and punk-funk in the UK and captures the ground-breaking and seminal groups that crossed the divide of punk and dance music for the first time. // InchIn the Beginning is essential missing-link history - and body-rockin' funInch The Guardian // InchIn the Beginning doesn't have a single limp tune. It'll amaze new listeners and give old ones some hard-to-find tracks. Buy it.Inch Pitchfork // InchThere's no denying that In the Beginning There Was Rhythm is a great gateway into this expansive, fruitful, trailblazing era.Inch All Music // First released in 2001, this album is fully remastered, remade and presented once more in it's entirety and features A Certain Ratio, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, The Human League, The Pop Group, Gang of Four, The Slits, 23 Skidoo and This Heat. // The CD of the album comes with extensive sleevenotes and original photography. // As Muzik magazine noted on it's initial 'In The Beginning' is a choice selection from the fertile post-punk period when bands thought nothing of combining politics and philosophy with imported dance rhythms and edgy industrial angst. // The bands featured come (mostly) from the then bleak post-industrial North of England - Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds as well as Bristol and London, and yet all show a fascination with black American rhythms and an experimentation in sound that was completely unique at the time. // The title of the album comes from The Slits track of the same name. A near-definitive guide to some of the world's most extraordinary music. THE GUARDIAN Soul Jazz Records Deutsche Elektronische Music Volume 2 is now available in CD for the first time in over 10 years!! Soul Jazz Records' 'Deutsche Elektronische Musik 2' is their second voyage into the world of Krautrock and German electronic music from the 1970s and early 1980s. Two double LPs (with over 2½ hours of amazing music) features a stunning line-up of seminal German groups, including Can, Faust, Popul Vuh, Neu!, Cluster, Amon Düül II, La Düsseldorf, as well as a host of lesser known and more obscure groups and artists such as Agitation Free, Bröselmaschine, Niagara and many more. As well as the original pioneers, 'Deutsche Elektronische Musik 2' also features many of the second wave of German electronic artists and groups from the late 70s and early 80s (DAF, Asmus Tietchens, Rolf Trostel), who successfully connected new wave, minimal synth and a European post punk avant-gardism with the earlier more established Krautrock pioneers who began at the start of the 70s. Influenced as much by the electronic experimentalism of Stockhausen as the progressive rock of USA and UK underground rock, young German artists seamlessly created a new music with it's own unique identity, which they ironically entitled Krautrock. By the end of the 1970s, with the arrival of new wave synthetics and complex drum machines, this music had mutated once again into new electronic visions reflecting a new Germany.CD 11. A.R.
