About this product

For some time, writes viola virtuoso Mathis Rochat in the preface of this new , he had been thinking to adapt Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Cello Concerto in B-flat Major for his own use. He calls it a Inchsomewhat audacious transcriptionInch, but the range of the solo part is well-suited for the viola and can be performed on the instrument with great ease. Which had to be proven first! Indeed, the young Swiss artist lends the Inchhigher-pitchedInch composition a power of momentum and elasticity from which the already supple, melodious music can only benefit. All the more, since it is a superb InchovertureInch to both of the following works, which Johann Gottlieb Graun, eleven years Bach's senior, had intended for the viola. Sometimes flanked by it's little sister, as in the quiet Sturm und Drang C Minor concerto, then alone in sole competition with the string orchestra, this under-appreciated instrument shows in the music of the Berlin Court a wealth of expression that need not hide behind it's higher and lower rivals. Album Tracks 1. Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B flat major Wq 171~Allegretto 2. Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B flat major Wq 171~Adagio 3. Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B flat major Wq 171~Allegro assai 4. Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra in c minor~Allegro con spirito 5. Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra in c minor~Adagio con sordini 6. Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra in c minor~Allegro assai 7. Concerto for Viola, Strings and b.c. in E flat major~Allegretto 8. Concerto for Viola, Strings and b.c. in E flat major~Adagio und poco andante 9. Concerto for Viola, Strings and b.c. in E flat major~Allegro assai

L'Orfeo Barockorchester Heerden - 3 Overture Suites - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The work group formed by Telemann's overture suites is regarded as exemplary and even today offers a wealth of discoveries - and the three works presented here in album recording premieres certainly answer this description. It is difficult to determine the chronological order of Telemann's extant overture suites because the composer incorporated very different influences into them, not only from French music since the invention of the form by Jean-Baptiste Lully but also from the InchLullistsInch active in Germany such as Johann Sigismund Kusser, Philipp Heinrich Erlebach, and Johann Fischer. And for Telemann's pronounced tendency to mix existing formal, stylistic, and generic traditions, the overture suite formed an absolutely ideal foil. Here we can find diverse characters, formal combinations, and stylistic interconnections in great supply. The great imagination and spirit at work here are also shown in the plentiful stores of surprising ideas that shine like flashes of brainstorm lightning in various passages.

Fasch / Winter / Konzert - Missa in G / Cantata / Suite in a - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

As the court music director in Zerbst, Johann Friedrich Fasch had to deal directly with current religious trends and was obliged to occupy himself with Pietism. After all, from the beginning of his tenure there his duties had included the composition of the church music for every court religious service and for all the church feast days. Fasch had a special mission in mind when he penned his cantatas he was very much interested in having hislisteners not remain indifferent to the texts that were sung. And so he employed all sorts of compositional tricks to capture their attention and to emphasize words of special importance to him. This procedure is impressively revealed already at the beginning of the cantata »Ich danke dem Herrn vom ganzen Herzen.« After a short instrumental introduction the opening Biblical text is presented not as usual by the choir but initially by the solo soprano. Then in the Missa in G major almost all the facets of Fasch's musical talent are shown; from arias with obbligato solo instruments to grandly dimensioned chorale fugues placing the greatest demands both on the singers and the instrumentalists, it was composed in it's entirety for the entertainment and edification of his noble employer and to the glory of God. One of Fasch's overture suites of extraordinary quality rounds off this album. In his autobiography he acknowledged InchOn this occasion I cannot avoid publicly acknowledging that I then learned mostly everything from the beautiful work of my most revered and beloved friend, Mr. Music Director Telemann, by constantly taking the same as a model for me, especially in the overturesInch. Album Tracks 1. Missa in G FÜR Sopran, Alt, Tenor Und Bass, Vierstimmigen Chor, Zwei Oboen, Streicher Und Basso Continuo 2. Overture (Suite) for 2 Oboes, Bassoon, Strings & Continuo in a Major, Fawv K A3 3. Ich Danke Dem Herrn Von Ga
