A: No. It does need the elastic strap to stay closed , but is part of the good thing about it as it gives the flexibility needed for you to adapt it to what you need in the moment.
Q: Do you need to purchase a screen protector in additional to this case?
A: you should always have a screen protector besides having the case. It is too easy to scratch you screen.
