After spending some time with the new TCL 65" QM7L QD-Mini LED television, my overall impression is very positive. TCL continues to push premium features into a price range that undercuts many competing brands, and the QM7L feels like a TV that delivers far more than its price tag suggests. Setup Experience My initial setup experience was not perfect. The TV offers a convenient phone-based setup process using a QR code displayed on-screen. Unfortunately, when I scanned the code with my iPhone, it redirected me to an "App Clip Unavailable" message and would not complete the configuration process. Fortunately, TCL and Google still provide a traditional setup path. I was able to bypass the issue and complete configuration by manually signing into my Google account directly on the television. While this wasn't a deal breaker, it did add several extra minutes to the setup process and may frustrate less technical users. Picture Quality Once configured, the QM7L immediately impressed. The QD-Mini LED backlighting provides excellent brightness, strong contrast, and impressive black levels. Whether watching streaming content, sports, or regular broadcast television, the image is vibrant and punchy without appearing overly artificial. It blows my older TV out of the water on the black levels. I tend to watch spooky and shows with lots of shoot-em-up night action and these black level make it AWESOME! Colors look rich and accurate right out of the box, and HDR content really shines. The Mini LED technology helps deliver much deeper blacks than traditional LED televisions while maintaining excellent brightness for daytime viewing. For a mid-to-upper tier television, the QM7L punches well above its weight class. Google TV and Gemini Integration Google TV remains one of the strongest smart TV platforms available today. Navigation is smooth, app availability is excellent, and content recommendations are generally useful. Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, YouTube, and many other services are readily available. One of the standout features on this model is Gemini for TV. TCL has integrated Google's latest AI capabilities directly into the television experience. Users can ask questions, search for content, learn about topics, receive news briefings, and explore information without leaving the couch. While Gemini is still evolving, it adds a modern AI-powered experience that helps distinguish the QM7L from many competing televisions. TCL Free TV A pleasant surprise is TCL's inclusion of TCL Free TV. The service provides access to numerous free streaming channels without requiring additional subscriptions. For cord-cutters or casual viewers, this adds immediate value right out of the box and expands available content options significantly. Thoughtful Feature: Standby Indication Bar One feature that deserves special recognition is TCL's "Standby Indication Bar" setting. Out of the box, the front LED light remains illuminated when the TV is powered off. In a bedroom or dark living room, this light can be surprisingly bright at night. Thankfully, TCL includes a simple setting that allows users to disable it completely. Thank you, TCL, for providing the option rather than forcing users to live with an always-on light. It's a small feature, but one that improves everyday usability. Audio and Design The television itself looks modern and premium with slim bezels and a clean appearance. Mounted on the wall, it presents a very polished look. Audio quality is respectable for built-in TV speakers, though users seeking a true theater experience will still benefit from a soundbar or dedicated audio system. Final Verdict The TCL QM7L successfully blends premium display technology, Google's excellent smart TV platform, AI-powered Gemini features, and free streaming content into a highly compelling package. While the QR-code/App Clip setup issue was frustrating, the workaround was straightforward and did not impact the TV's overall performance once configured. The only issue I had was a minor setup hiccup, otherwise it's beet great! If you're looking for a 65-inch television that delivers premium picture quality, modern AI features, and tremendous value, the TCL QM7L is an easy recommendation and one of the strongest TV values currently available in its class.

I have had many entry-level TCL TVs for bedrooms and non-critical viewing. Over the last year I have picked up two of the higher end TCL models, the 75QM851G and 98QM7K. I was so impressed with the QM851 and QM7K that I got the QM7L. This is the latest version of TCL’s upper mid-level TV with all of last year’s bells and whistles and more from the higher end models. I picked the 65” model for my bedroom and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. The QM7 runs on the Google TV platform. It is very quick to load apps, and the user interface responds in an instant. There is so much to like about this TV’s technology. The updated Google TV has Gemini AI that learns your viewing likes and dislikes and filters recommendations based on your viewing habits. If this kind of assistance bothers you, you can turn it off in the settings. The Picture settings come with Vivid, ECO, Sports, Film maker, and Movie mode. When watching Dolby Vision content, you have the choice between Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Vision Bright and Dolby Vision Dark. Watching 4K content is amazing. The colors are so realistic, and the contrast is next level. Whether you are watching in a dark or bright room the picture still pops. The QM7 has no problem overcoming bright rooms, and you don’t lose any detail. What’s very impressive is the black levels. With 2100 local dimming zones, the TV is nearly as black as OLED and with no visible blooming. This also provides excellent HDR where Bright highlights pop through the deep blacks. As for sound, the QM7L has that covered by B&O and for a TV hanging on the wall, it sounds very good. There are two bass speakers on the back to enhance the overall sound. You can also add wireless speakers as well. I was very impressed with the quality of the sound from the TV itself. You can also cast from Apple, AirPlay 2 and Googles Chromecast. The remote is a minimalist with some short cut buttons to popular streaming services, volume up and down, channel up and down, power, back button, Settings button, Home Button, Mute, and a Microphone button. The Microphone button is handy when doing searches for content to watch. There is so much more in this TV and I know I’m only scratching the surface, but his is one of the best TVs I have ever owned and recommended to anyone looking for a higher tier TV at a great price point.

We wanted a tv to replace our 2018 50” model in our lesser used living room. The room is like a sunroom with full windows on three walls so tv watching can be “tricky” on bright days. We had also recently purchased a brand new big name 85” tv for our main tv watching den for which we did a lot of research. The TCL brand had some great recommendations but we purchased the same brand we’ve used for years. We do like the mini led and we were happy to grab this 65” TCL QM7L series. Honestly, I wasn’t really expecting to be impressed by a less expensive 65” tv compared to our “fancy” 85” in our den. My 80yo husband was easily able to install the base and the two of us were able to put it in place on the stand in our living room. Set up was simple. We live in a very rural area and just recently, after being here for 40 years, were able to get high speed internet. Streaming is easy to connect, but less so to operate for old folks. Thankfully, smart tvs do the work for you. We also connected a dedicated basic 4K Blu-ray dvd player for the best experience in 4K and our “antenna” box for old fashioned free TV, no cable. Once we followed the simple prompts for getting setup we were ready to watch. I popped in a DVD that we had purchased, 4K ultra HD Blu-ray “Oceans Our Blue Planet”. WOW! The colors and depth blew us away. It was actually breathtaking. I’ve never had a TV that didn’t require some adjustments in advanced settings to the colors, brightness and contrast. The picture was perfection. The sound is perfect as well. Now to my one, maybe, issue. We connected a Sony soundbar to the set via HDMI ARC. In all honesty, we could not tell if the sound was from the TV itself or the sound bar. Truly, my husband is very hard of hearing and I’m marginally better. Either way we don’t care because the sound was crystal clear to us. There were no issues with the bright room, streaming worked great and the antenna gave us lots of free channels as well. This is a Google TV platform, totally new to us but it seems to be straight forward and I was able to find the apps I needed for a subscription to a lesser known network. Now I have a place to watch movies or home shopping while my husband enjoys his sports package on the REALLY big screen. I think I found a secret though. Maybe the 65” screen is sharper than the big screen cause this TCL is gorgeous!

The TCL QM7L offers quantum crystel tech with built in AI to help stream all your favorite shows with true and natural colors. And at a somewhat competitive price the real question begs to be asked, and that is rather or not any real break through tech exist and how well everything stream lines together. And while the colors may be vibrant and true, the TCL seems to struggle to keep up with modern day streaming services. So out of the box a couple things you may or may not notice. First and foremost this is probably one of the thinnest flat screen displays i currently own. The display is paired with a set of Bang & Olufsen speakers which is then combined with a set of bass speakers on the back side of the T.V. I was very excited to see a Bang & Olufsen set up on here as i own several of their products and know they offer superb sound and quality. I was unfortunately kind of disappointed by the actual quality that this unit produces. Don't get me wrong its not horrible by any means but its nothing jaw dropping. Sound quality sounds distant and at times muffled. It almost felt like the drivers were struggle to push sound out and in the process vocals seemed to take a hit. I can appreciate the built in pre-set EQ settings and manual EQ adjustment, but no matter what i did i just could not get my sound quality to sound as full as some of my other cheaper tvs. I had to have the volume pushed all the way up to 35% to get the filling that i was filling the room with decent sound. When compared to some of my other off brand TVs in the same category i was able to produce more fullness and cleaner vocals at just 15% control. Even with A.I. tech taking over trying to upscale and control sound quality this did not offer any remedy to enhancing my quality. Moving on to picture quality i will say this is where the TV shines the brightest, and i mean quite literally. The reds and blues are so bright and deep at times it almost appeared as if i could reach in the TV and pull out whatever image was being displayed. And where it truly became noticeable was side by side comparisons with similar models when it came to blacks and white colors, mainly the whites. When streaming a animal planet 4k video for testing purposes, there was a scene where a outdoor interview was being done against a white brick backdrop with the sun bright and overhead. My other like model TVs would struggle with displaying the glare from the sun on to the image and what would happen is it would blur the white brick backdrop making the image appear as if the person was standing in front of just a plain white screen. The TCL handled this same image with no problem. The display image of the glare from the sun was well mitigated and the whites from the brick back drop came in so true and clean that you could quite literally see all the defects and chips in the bricks. Hands down this is the best looking color tv i have in my possession to date, and thank god for that because thats about where it ends as far as break through tech goes. This unit struggles badly to upscale with streaming services and at times image quality can lag which causes picture and vocals to not be in sync together. This is most noticeable when watching live TV on Hulu or Youtube. When switching from channel to channel the picture quality is quickly rendered however when the image starts talking the vocals don't match the lips. It literally feels like im watching a old school kung fu movie where the lips don't move with the English voice over. Yes after about a couple minutes of waiting the TV eventually catches up but still this is disappointing considering non of my other similar tvs have this issue. Even with the help of AI it just can't seem to get it right when switching between shows. At the end of the day this comes down to one thing and only one thing. And that is picture quality. So you need to ask yourself what it is your really looking for. If picture quality and imaging is what your after, then yes absolutely buy this tv as this is where it shines the most and others seem to fall very hard when compared side by side. Other than that nothing break through here. Sound quality is average at best, the AI tech does its best to help with day to day needs but it just seems to lack the ability to feel like true AI. Speaking in to the mic and bringing up Google doesn't seem to offer any assistance. You can ask it for recommendations on shows to watch and it will pull up shows on streaming platforms i don't own. And even after linking it to my Google account and still giving it time to learn my algorithm it still struggled to provide any good help or suggestions to cater to my taste. For me picture quality isn't enough, especially with how far we have come with modern tech.

They have come a long way and have produced a television with premium build and a premium picture and sound to match! I have the "65 model and can't say enough good things about it ! Insane black levels minimum blooming and beautiful colors.

My 60" TV recently broke, and I was eager to get a similarly sized replacement. I saw this TV was just a little bigger, and I grabbed it as soon as I saw it. The physical setup wasn't quite as smooth as I would have liked. It really does take two people to setup this TV. You could probably get away with only having one person if it wasn't for the setup of the stand. I am not a fan of the stand that comes with this TV. It feels distressingly thin, it comes in multiple parts that have to be wedged together and then screwed in, and it requires elevating the TV at an angle (while not scraping the screen) in order to get it attached to the TV itself. The TV does come with standard VESA mounts with standoffs. I'd recommend just getting a third party stand instead. The software setup went very smoothly. The TV comes with the standard Google TV interface. It's easy to navigate and integrates well with the rest of Google's products and services. The TV also comes with Gemini built in. While the TV is on, you can talk to it like you would with a Nest speaker. The power cord comes out of the left side of the TV, and it's a little short. The ports are all positioned on a panel on the right side. The TV has ample HDMI ports. Picture and sound quality are great. Everything looks bright and crisp, and the sound fills the room nicely. I like this TV, and I hope it lasts me for a while.

We purchased this TV just under a week ago and were very happy with the picture and operation (once we figured it out as instructions on use were lacking). On the 5th day, we turned the TV on in the morning to a black screen. The power turned on, the sound was there and there was a faint blurry shape in the background that moved like the image was there but behind a screen. I did a bit of research online and found that this was prominent enough for there to be several videos on how to fix it (which worried me that it happened enough for there to be fix videos). It said to disconnect everything and unplug the TV for 30 minutes and then reconnect power and see if it fixed it. I tried, but didnt seem to work. Since the store didn't open for a couple of hours, I just left it unplugged, returning about an hour and a half later, plugged it in again and it came up with a regular screen like nothing had happened. Since I was not comfortable with a brand new TV requiring service for that sort of issue, I returned it and purchased a different brand. On the other side of the coin, the TV had a great picture, excellent features, and a great price. Best Buy has an excellent return policy, so if you wish to try this Model and brand, I would not vote against it as this could very easily been a one off issue (I always find the bad ones....LOL) giving the Manufacturer the benefit of the doubt.

Worth every dollar and the speakers are loud enough that a sound bar isn’t needed.

Use it in the living room and love it. Easy to hook up and the picture is nice.

The TCL QM7L is TCL’s entry level premium television. It has TCLs newest display technology, SQD-Mini, packed inside that gives the ultimate 4K TV viewing experience. It boasts having more precise dimming zones that delivers richer colors and darker blacks. At an MSRP of $1,499 does it make sense to get this over an OLED? The box for the TV was nothing to really write home about. It was a standard brown box that was packed well. The TV was securely packaged and it looked that by design nothing could be moved out of place during transport. Included in the box are the accessories like the remote and various screws as well as the stand/base. I was surprised by how thick this TV was. I admit, I did not have help getting the TV out of the box like the instructions suggested. I have lifted and installed 75” TVs by myself in the past no problem. Take the suggestion seriously. Its weight is deceiving. Aside from the weight, the tv felt nice and had a premium look to it. The stand for the TV at first doesn’t seem too impressive. I don’t know if this is something that is common nowadays, but the stand is height adjustable. There are two height settings for the TV. This is something that I have been complaining about for a long time now. Most of the TVs I have had have been too short to accommodate a soundbar without blocking the IR sensor for TV operation. Big game changer. KEY SPECS: - SQD Mini LED technology - Dolby Vision - 144Hz refresh rate - 3000 nit brightness The TV has an impressive spec sheet. The 4K resolution is the baseline for most available TVs now. What doesn’t feel standard is the refresh rate and the brightness levels. The display is phenomenal! The SQD-Mini LED panel uses TCL’s Deep Color System which outputs some crazy rich and deep colors. It also have multiple dimming zones that compliment the richness and depth of colors. Because of the dimming zones this tv has some really insane black levels. I feel like it rivals a few of the OLED tvs that I have seen in stores. The TV is able to achieve 144Hz which is beneficial for those who are gaming and can push that frame rate. I dont play console games so I am not sure what current gen hardware can achieve that refresh rate. If I were to hook my PC up to the tv I would be able to have silky smooth movements without any screen tearing. For those who have a very bright room or one that is filled with a lot of natural light this TV might be the one for you. The tv can achieve 3000 nits of brightness. This allows you to watch the tv in just about any environment. If you are unfamiliar with nits as a brightness value then look up your phone’s brightness for a point of comparison. Getting the TV setup out of the box wasn’t too bad. The prompt for setup were simple and intuitive to use. You could setup the tv using your phone or from the on device instructions. 
Once inside the tv the ease of use kind of shifts. I am the type of person that likes to play around with the advanced settings of a tv. There are just so many layers of settings to sift through. For example, I was looking for the CEC settings for the TV. When enabled, when a device connected by HDMI, like a blu-ray player or video game console, is powered on then it will also send a signal to the TV to have it turn on as well. It’s really just a quality of life thing. One would think it would be in power settings. That is where it is on a lot of other manufacturers of TV. I think I dug around for 5 minutes before finding it in the HDMI settings for the inputs. It is small things like this that make me feel like I haven’t really gotten my tv dialed in the way that I like it. I would have more peace of mind and could relax a bit more if I knew that all the settings for the tv are completed. When I was installing the stand to the tv I saw that there were two speaker ports on the back of the set. I have always written off internal tv speakers because they tend to be really awful. I made it a point to not use my soundbar for the first thing of media that I consumed to give the internal Bang & Olufsen speakers a fair shot. My son and I watched a Formula 1 Grand Prix and I have to give it to TCL and Bang & Olufsen. They made a great sounding TV. I did not find the sound to be tinny or distorted during our use. If anything, I was impressed by the low end frequency that the speakers were able to hit. This is leaps and bounds better than what we used to have. In a crowded market, of TVs the QM7L stands out thanks in part to the SQD-Mini display and those Bang & Olufsen speakers. I have really enjoyed every viewing experience that I have had with this TV. The only thing that prevents me from giving it a 5/5 is the not so intuitive settings menu.

Picture looks great. We have separate sound bar and use that instead of the audio, but video is terrific

First time trying this brand. This fulfilled my expectations with reduced glare from the windows. I added the sound bar package and it was perfect for the price.

TCL, what planet did you go to to get the tech to make this thing look so good? Now when I took it out the box I was concerned about the plastic base. Wondering if it would handle the weight but I got over that pretty quickly. Fired up a few movies and some anime and I was thought something was off. Colors looks a bit washed out and dull. Not what I was expecting. Then I started playing with the settings. Yeah, you gotta play a bit. I like the 4 2.1 HDMI ports on the TV. Most of time you only get 3 and the optical port for sound to a soundbar or amp. This TV is about as bright as anything I have ever had. Once I set it up the way I like it. The OLED in the other room who won't be named wasn't close to this as fas as colors, contrast and brightness. Mind you I had to make a few adjustments. Now the IMAX and Filmmaker modes are very interesting. I have another TV that has Filmmaker mode and no matter what I do in the settings it never looks good. This TV on the other hand was a different story. I fired up The Batman and hit that scene where they have the Batmobile revving its engine before the chase scene. WOO!! That was cool and the sound for a TV was better than decent. It won't make me want to sell my surround sound but if you don't have a nice setup or a soundbar you can get away without having one for a while with this TV. No cons to talk about yet and I don't think I will have any. Oh yeah, if you're a gamer this might give you a reason to move your rig into the living room. If you have a 4k version of Pacific Rim you can thank me later. The CPU in this TV is nice. No lag in apps inside Google TV. Go get one.

This is the first TCL product I’ve owned. I hesitated momentarily before picking the TCL 65QM7L because I was unfamiliar with the product line. However, the specs on this TV immediately grabbed my attention. The TV I owned before this one was a 65” Android TV (from another vendor). I was unfamiliar with that vendor’s product line as well, but eventually considered it one of my favorites. Each new TV I upgraded to over the years ended up being a significant leap in improvement from the one it replaced. And I’m happy to say that that trend continues with 65QM7L. This unit is the best yet. bringing a host of improvements compared to anything I’ve previously owned. Once unboxed, wall mounted, and powered up, getting this unit ready for use was easy. All I needed to do was I authenticate using my Google login. Then, I needed to identify which apps should be installed, and one-by-one authenticated with my login credentials. Any Smart TV I’ve owned always come with a set of feet should I want to sit it on a tabletop. The 65QM7L likewise comes with its own tabletop mount, although it comes with a single mount that attaches to the bottom-center of the TV. I didn’t need to use it, so I can’t speak to how well it serves that purpose. I ended up using the same wall-mount I had from my previous TV. While my experience may be different from someone else’s, I thought the 65QM7L had a gorgeous screen. I also found the TV Remote to be well designed and highly responsive. In the end, I made virtually no changes to the unit’s standard setup options as all the default settings were perfect for me. I thought the built-in speakers were quite good and honestly had no problems with them at all. That said, I eventually elected to use a soundbar I’ve had for years to see how it would perform. I connected an HDMI cable between the soundbar and TV, plugging the cable into the TV’s eARC HDMI port. And it worked great! The biggest issue I encountered was storing the HDMI and soundbar’s power cable behind the TV so that they weren’t visible. I know, I know, this is not a TV issue. Since receiving this unit, I’ve spent a good amount of time watching my favorite TV series and movies. Oh, and watching DVDs on a DVD player I own. The DVD player had its own HDMI cable connected to a port on the TV. Be it streaming service or DVD player, this has been one very enjoyable experience. I should note that all communication with the TV has been via WiFi, not Ethernet or Cable connection. While not all Smart TVs are the same, most have a feature allowing you to adjust the TV viewing experience to match the content being watched. Thus, watching Golf on TV is going to be a different viewing experience than watching a Movie. I would expect the screen to be brighter when live-streaming golf, while a movie might be a mix of bright and dim scenes. TCL has different modes to address these needs in a feature called Picture Mode. Included modes consist of Filmmaker & Movie Mode, Intelligent, Vivid, Game, Standard, and Sports. Picture Mode is really a case of personal preference. I primarily use Movie and Sports modes, and that suits me well. I strongly encourage you to try out these modes for yourself to see what provides the best viewing experience for you. To gain access to Picture Mode while watching a show, the TV Remote has a button (top right) consisting of 3 horizontal lines that, when pressed, activates a selection screen that includes Picture Mode and other adjustable features. The 65QM7L has so many features that it would take forever to touch on all of them. With that said, I can summarize my assessment like this: I am enormously enjoying this TV for its picture quality, its adjustability, and ultimately, ease of use. It has surpassed anything I’ve previously owned. As such, I am rating it 5 stars.

The TV is amazing and we would have given it 5 stars except for the 8 missing screws that were supposed to be included in the parts bag per the instruction manual. Nothing like unboxing your new TV and checking the parts list, only to find you don't have all the parts. The only assembly needed was the stand. There were supposed to be four different types of screws of various sizes. Our parts package only included 2 different types and we spent 20 minutes searching the box & packing supplies in an attempt to locate them unsuccessfully. I'll skip the hair pulling & angst that followed but in the end, thankfully the parts needed to assemble the TV stand were the ones we had.

TCL Google TV has something for everyone in your household. I particularly was excited to use accessibility features which quickly helped my vision to adjust to the TV by not only reducing the intensity/saturation of the colors but by taking all the colors and readjusting them all thy made all the difference in my viewing. It’s truly a necessity for me and not a luxury. I’ll be looking out for this feature in all future purchases. The sound features help by allowing for speakers to be heard, concert instruments to be heightened, action movies to make you feel like you’re at a theater and more. In the settings you can inform the tv whether you are setting it on a tv stand or mounting on the wall. This way, the sound will come from the tv accordingly. The tv itself has a decent weight not being overly heavy and can easily be carried by 2 persons. T TCL tv is preloaded and is free to use provided you allow permissions to certain information. TCL Tv programs are listed by categories and has tv guide display with times, channels and categories to help find your favorite shows/movies. For the gamers, the TCL has an excellent display to enjoy vibrant colors, Go to settings and switch to gaming mode for an experience that will level you up. The remote is easy to use, lightweight and has a few apps preloaded on the tv which correspond and open with the touch of a button. I own 3 TCL tv's and they all provide excellent value for the cost. This is replacing a 10 year old tv in my master bedroom. I watch mostly streaming content and this TV doesn't disappoint. It has great specs but real world experience is what matters to most. The colors, contrast and blacks are great. The super resolution added in firmware v321 uses ai to sharpen the picture and that makes a huge difference especially on youtube. The Google OS is snappy with no lag. It does support 3rd party launchers and has plenty of storage for apps. At night I usually have the brightness at 30% and around 70% during the day so brightness shouldn't be an issue for anyone even in a bright room. I didn't notice any panel imperfections. The sound is better than average but I prefer a soundbar. The remote is of average quality relative to our other TCL remotes which are built more solidly but it is backlit which is nice. This tv would be as much as most people would need and then some. Unless you are a high end gamer or want the greatest specs this is the best mid range tv for the price on the market. We have four now including one outside on the patio and haven't had any issues.
