The close-knit nature of the Bach musical family is documented in many sources. They met regularly for family celebrations, exchanged experiences and, of course, always had an eye on where there was a vacant position. In baroque Central Germany, the name InchBachInch was practically synonymous with the job title InchmusicianInch. For the Ensemble Polyharmonique and Teatro del Mondo with it's director Andreas Küppers, too, the InchOld Bach ArchiveInch is the most important starting point for the musical representation of Bach's InchFamily AffairsInch. Six compositions from this valuable collection were selected for the present recording. These pieces are complemented by further works from various Bach generations up to the late 18th century. A clearly audible connection is revealed not only by the consistent instrumentation of four to six vocal parts and basso continuo, but also by a kind of Inchfamily soundInch. Even when Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach composes a motet in the style of Empfindsamkeit, it may be assumed that he also had the works of his ancestors in mind, which were composed more than 100 years earlier. Hummel and Schubert at their Best Stylistically, Johann Nepomuk Hummel's music generally stands for the end of Viennese Classicism and the transitional period between this epoch and Romanticism. Hummel composed his Quintet op. 87 in 1802, that is, seventeen years before Schubert wrote his InchTrout QuintetInch in 1819. The famous chamber music critic Rudolf Felber wrote of Hummel's work InchThe quintet is a masterpiece; the first movement immediately captivates and impresses the listener with it's power and passion. The peculiar main theme has a somewhat belligerent character... The Allegro agitato finale is full of carefree mirth and ends with a brilliant and effective conclusion.Inch On this new album Hummel's quintet is combined with Schubert's famous InchTrout Quintet.Inch The esteem in which Schubert held Hummel manifested itself on various occasions and is reflected particularly by the fact that he dedicated his last three sonatas to him. These two radiant quintets representing the best of classical chamber music are interpreted by the Libertalia Ensemble, whose members include the renowned and successful brothers David and Alexandre Castro-Balbi.
