About this product

'Hang Me, Oh Hang Me' is the sophomore album and debut for Black Hen Music from Saskatoon's The Deep Dark Woods. Recorded by the band and Ross Nykiforuk (The Northern Pikes) at Cosmic Pad Studios in Saskatoon during the winter of 2006-07, Hang Me, Oh Hang Me, draws inspiration from the long, depressing Saskatchewan winter, road trips to the Southern States, as well as the sad state of today's popular music. Mixed by Steve Dawson, Hang Me, Oh Hang Me possesses all of the same diverse songwriting as their self-titled debut but with more emphasis on arrangements and instrumentation. Fronted by Ryan T. Boldt, the lead and rhythm guitar duties are shared by Boldt and guitarist Burke C. Barlow. C.S. Mason (bass) and Lucas Goetz (drums) round out the rhythm section as well as provide the band's characteristic bright harmonies. Influenced by the likes of The Byrds, The Grateful Dead, Gram Parsons, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits, as well as traditional bluegrass artists like The Stanley Brothers and Carl Story, The Deep Dark Woods blur the lines between country, rock, folk, and bluegrass. From the dark, creepy 'Redwood Forest' to the joyful gospel number 'Glory, Hallelujiah', the bitter heartbreak of 'Five-Hundred Meters' and the pedal-steel driven 'They Won't Last Long', the record's songs are as heartfelt as the band's songwriters. Having shared the stage with The Sadies, Magnolia Electric Company, Oh Susanna, and Utah Phillips among others, The Deep Dark Woods will be touring across Canada in September and October. Album Tracks 1. Five Hundred Meters 2. Glory Hallelujah 3. Journey Home 4. They Won't Last Long 5. By the Light of the Moon 6. Rumble in the Sky 7. Hang Me, Oh Hang Me 8. Redwood Forest 9. River in the Pines 10. Shores of Alabama 11. Big City Blues

Liszt / Bolet - Rias Recordings - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Volume 2 of the RIAS Jorge Bolet recordingsis dedicated to Franz Liszt, whose works helped launch the Cuban-born pianist's career; it was also his Liszt performances that shaped Bolet's later path. JorgeBolet shot to fame with the soundtrack of the Hollywood adaptation of the Liszt biography Song Without End. The RIAS recordings also show Bolet to be a Liszt authority. The piano concertos, conducted by LawrenceFoster and Edo de Waart, are concert recordings the solo pieces were recorded in the studio. The concert paraphrase of the overture to Wagner's Tannhauser, whose challenges are feared by most pianists, was one of Bolet's Inchwar horsesInch few other twentieth century pianists would have come close to the technical and interpretational perfection with which he performed the work. The recording ofthe three Petrarch sonnets from the second volume of Liszt's Annees de Pelerinage reveal Bolet to bea master of beautiful sound production and legato playing. Bolet demonstrates an unerringly clear and perfectly shaped pianism, as well as his understanding of virtuosity it is never employed for it's own sake, but always to illustrate the musical context. In contrast to the recordings in our first boxed set (audite 21.438), all recordings presented here are in stereo. Album Tracks 1. Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat Major, S. 124 2. Piano Concerto No. 2 in a Major, S. 125 3. Années de Pèlerinage. Deuxième Année Italie 4. Overture to 'Tannhäuser', S. 442
