I owned these movies on DVD when they were released. I have recently started watching the LOTR series on Amazon and wanted to show my 13yo son the movies. I decided to buy this trilogy on Blu-ray because the sound is typically leaps and bounds better than regular DVD. I couldn’t be any happier with my purchase. The price was really great and free shipping made this a no brainer. I was able to watch all 3 films with my son who really enjoyed them. The sound and picture were amazing.

I previously purchased the extended editions, but while they're nice, nothing quite compares to the theatrical versions, and the high quality of this set at such an affordable price point makes it a no-brainer.

Great remastering at a super price. Not for you if you want the additional seconds for $60.

I purchased these because I wanted to get a taste of the new remaster without spending $$$$ on the 4K box set. I also wanted to watch the theatrical editions again after years of the extended edition. I think the picture quality is beautiful all things considered, with refreshed color in some scenes I've watched dozens of times in the past, and very sharp detail everywhere. It helps that I've seen them so much, so I know what to compare the picture quality to. I watched these on a 4K blu-ray player, upscaled to 4K, and I was so impressed despite a couple scenes not always looking top notch. I don't feel that I'm losing out on detail by not having the full 4K disc.
