The hypnotic final film from Mike Hodges, director of Croupier and the classic Get Carter, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead is a psychological crime-drama that features an irresistible cast including Clive Owen (Inside Man), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Velvet Goldmine), Charlotte Rampling (Orca) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) and asks the question what is the price of vengeance? Ex-gangster Will Graham thought he had gained back his soul by leaving the hard-boiled life of the criminal underworld behind him and taking on the life of a drifter. But when his younger brother is found dead of a gruesome suicide, Will comes back to town and discovers that his death was motivated by a shocking event involving a local car dealer with a violent habit. To get vengeance against the man responsible, Will must deal with the unfinished business of his old life, which includes a feud with the local crime boss and lingering feelings for an old flame.
Prosperous contractor Clint Goodman (Tim Matheson) dearly loved his wife Joanna (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Unfortunately, she loved local doctor Cort van Owen (William Atherton), and he loved cash. They connived to poison Clint and run off together after a hasty funeral, but they really should have upped the dosage-because he revived, clawed his way out of his grave... and he's not happy. Frank Darabont's exceptional made-for-TV revenge thriller also stars Hoyt Axton, Peg Shirley. 93 min. Standard; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English; audio commentary; featurette; theatrical trailers.
The latest production of Earl Carroll's legendary Broadway review has a particularly harsh critic, as death threats made to the leading lady (Kitty Carlisle) have been followed up by murders in the wings. It's up to the stage manager (Jack Oakie) and a gruff cop (Victor McLaglen) to give the killer the hook in this pre-Code whodunit laden with production numbers and barely dressed chorines. Carl Brisson, Gertrude Michael, Gail Patrick, Toby Wing also star. 89 min. Standard; Soundtrack English DTS Lossless stereo; Subtitles English; audio commentary; theatrical trailers.
