The Wedding Banquet - DVD

Min (Han Gi-Chan) wanted a green card so he could dodge going back to the family business in South Korea-and he didn't want to get disinherited, so marrying partner Chris (Bowen Yang) wasn't an option. The fix was a faux marriage to Chris' college buddy Angela (Kelly Marie Tran), in exchange for funding IVF for her partner Lee (Lily Gladstone). But then came the matter of Min's family flying in for a traditional party! Andrew Ahn's charming update of the Ang Lee classic co-stars Joan Chen, Youn Yuh-Jung. 102 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

Career-stalled NYC writer Billi Wang (Awkwafina) was trying (and failing) to deal with the news that her beloved grandmother (Zhao Shuzhen) in Changchun had terminal cancer. As her parents (Tzi Ma, Diana Lin) resolved to keep the matriarch in the dark about her health-and used the pretext of a cousin's wedding for a last goodbye from the extended family-Billi found herself torn between culturally-expected silence and her own guilt. Lulu Wang's acclaimed dramedy co-stars Lu Hong, Jiang Yongbo.

This lost gem, showcasing the early directorial style of Brian DePalma, features Robert DeNiro and Jill Clayburgh in their first screen appearances.
