A cryptic call about a planned jewelry heist draws a Detroit Free Press tipline operator, Maddie Moore, into a dangerous homicide case alongside a newly promoted detective.

Based on an original novel by Erle Stanley Gardner (creator of Perry Mason), They Call it Murder, a made-for-TV pilot that unfortunately never led to the series it deserved, is an intense ''who-dunn-it'' murder mystery with many twists and turns, that manages to put the pieces amazingly together with full summation at the end. Featuring Jim Hutton (ala Timothy) in an excellent performance as the relentless DA, he investigates a murder that soon leads to even more homicides. A contemporary not to the Film Noir movies of the 1940's, They Call it Murder demands the viewer's concentration to follow the plot development from beginning to end. Also featuring Edward Asner and Leslie Nielsen.

Britain, 1953 As he trained to a new position in London, Nigerian attaché Luke Fitzwilliam (David Jonsson) chatted with Lavinia Pinkerton (Penelope Wilton), and was largely bemused by her assertion she'd be bringing Scotland Yard proof of a serial murderer afoot in her village. That was until he subsequently read of her slaying... and took it upon himself to head to her hometown and crack the case. Tweaking of the 1939 Christie novel co-stars Morfydd Clark, Mark Bonnar, Mathew Baynton. 117 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.
