About this product
Beyond it's musical riches, this medley of 1950s BBC radio broadcasts (from the Richard Itter Collection) opens a portal on England's post-war Handelian revival. It is no accident that all these performances involve Thurston Dart, as harpsichordist, conductor or musicologist. His energy inspired a generation of musicians to explore neglected works by Handel and a host of other baroque composers, in a lithe chamber style more appropriate to their work than the heavyweight, orchestral grandeur favoured by previous generations. The efforts of Dart and other performers featured here paved the way for those more radical, 'historically informed' performance practices, which swept all before them in later decades. Album Tracks 1. Harp Concerto in B Flat HWV 294 Op. 4 No. 6 2. Apollo E Dafne HWV 122 3. Concerto Grosso in B-Flat HWV 312 4. Sosame Opera, HWV 30 Act 2, Scene XIII, Mio Sposo - in Mille Dolci Modi

Friedrich Ladegast was one of the most important organ builders during the 2nd half of the 19th century. Especially with his first large organ at Merseburg Cathedral, he set the benchmark for organ building and at the same time influenced the further development of organ music Franz Liszt and his InchadlatusInch Alexander Winterberger immediately recognized the new symphonic options of the organ sound and therefore with their new works established a basis for using the organ in a new symphonic manner. This development saw it's peak half a century later in Max Reger's monumental organ works and found a parallel development in France where the French symphonic organ concept was based on the organs by Aristide Cavaille-Coll. Friedrich Ladegast was born in 1818 in Hochhermsdorf, therefore the musical world has just celebrated his 200th birthday. This marks the occasion for the of two albums on the Querstand tag which contain the programs of the first concerts played at two of the greatest Ladegast Organs the above-mentioned in Merseburg Cathedral and the organ at Schwerin Cathedral. Carl Heinrich Graun, like other Italian-influenced or Italian-trained German composers of his time, composed Italian cantatas throughout his entire creative period. The three cantatas belong to a small group in Graun's output, for soprano. The greater part of his 38 positively attributed Italian cantatas were composed for tenor, and thus probably for his own voice. Graun's soprano cantatas were probably written in his Berlin years after Friedrich's accession to the throne in 1740, when virtuoso castrati and singers were available for the demanding solo parts. After successful albums with music by Fasch, Hertel and Molter, the ensemble Main-Barockorchester has now joined the Accent tag. Hannah Morrison is regarded as one of the most promising young sopranos of the early music scene. Album Tracks 1. Cantata »Disperata Porcia« 2. Sinfonia from the Opera »Cinna« (Berlin, 1748) 3. Cantata »Apollo Amante Di Dafne« 4. Cantata »Lavinia a Turno«
