Otis Rene's Excelsior tag featured Nat Cole's first hit records, Gerald Wilson's and Johnny Otis's Orchestras, Jimmy Rushing, Luvenia Nash Singers, Gladys Bentley and the first Drifters group. Later, he created Spin Records which featured the Hollywood Flames with Johnny Otis, Preston Love and singer Beverly Wright. Finally, during the 1960's, Otis Rene revived the Excelsior imprint with a reissue of Nat Cole's sides combined with selections by soul singer Phil Flowers.
