About this product
Ensemble Ernst's InchXtended Hearts and Unheard HerdsInch is the second on the LAWO Classics tag by the distinguished contemporary music ensemble. This album is a continuation of their first, Inch... BUT... Inch, as they combine their own commissions with works with international appeal. Their intention is to let well-known names help Norwegian composers gain greater recognition worldwide. We hear works of the Norwegian composers Ragnhild Berstad, Jan Martin Smordal and Jan Erik Mikalsen, together with Serbian-Swedish composer Djuro Zivkovic. The result is a contemporary music bag of sweets in which hopefully everyone can find a favorite. Ensemble Ernst was established in 1996, an offspring of the contemporary music ensemble at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Thomas Rimul has been the conductor from the start, and most of the musicians have been members since the very beginning. Album Tracks 1. On the Guarding of the Heart (2011) 2. Xtendo (2016) 3. (Herd) Study (2015) 4. Jeger (2013)

Czech-born Swiss conductor Rafael Kubelik trained in Prague and debuted with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 19. He went on to be music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Before recording the best of his repertoire (Dvorak, Mahler, Beethoven, Schumann) for Deutsche Grammophon, Rafael Kubelik was particularly active with the English tag Decca. With it, in fact, he recorded his only complete edition of the Brahms Symphonies in 1957. And it is this beautiful stereo version, which has not been found on the market for years, that we are presenting on these 2 albums after a careful restoration.

Following the huge success of their debut album on Orchid Classics, Yuri Zhislin and Camerata Tchaikovsky return with a sumptuous programme of Russian delights. This boasts richly Romantic works by composers from the different musical schools of thought blossoming in 19th-century and early 20th-century Russia. Borodin was one of the nationalist 'Russian Five', and the 'Nocturne' from his String Quartet No. 2 is one of his most stunning creations. Tchaikovsky was more influenced by German music, but also drew upon folk styles closer to home, as in his moving Andante cantabile from his String Quartet No. 1. Both Rachmaninov and Arensky were deeply influenced by Tchaikovsky. Rachmaninov's famous Vocalise is a beautiful song without words, and Arensky's Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky are a graceful tribute to his hero. All but the Arensky piece have been specially arranged by Yuri Zhislin for this recording. Camerata Tchaikovsky's debut on Orchid met with considerable acclaim InchTheir richly confident playing is startlingly good taut, precise and immaculately phrasedInch - The Guardian. Album Tracks 1. Concerto for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra in E Flat, Op. 109 (1934) 2. String Quartet No. 2 in a Minor, Op. 35A (1894) 3. Andante Cantabile from String Quartet No. 1, Op. 11 (1871) 4. Nocturne from String Quartet No. 2 (1881) 5. Vocalise, Op. 34 (1912)
