A new age critters. Odd but enjoyable.
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendIf you are a fan of the classic critters films, you may feel initially off put, but ultimately entertained. I always enjoy seeing a filmmaker with a particular style tackle a long-standing series and infusing their flavor. This film is made by Bobby Miller, a young creator who brings a fresh angle to Critters, echoing his mostly comedic background. This film feels like a mix of Gremlins, a Disney Channel live action kids show, and a Sci fi channel movie. Allow me to elaborate case by case. Gremlins in the sense that, many of the Critters have more distinguished looks than previously. There is also a ‘Gizmo-esque’ critter. Also, a BIG BIG applause for using animatronic and puppets. Fear not, there are no CGI critters. It is like a Disney channel show in the sense that you will mostly be watching a group of young adults/kids running around dodging trouble with a comedic malaise about the situation, almost like a halloween special. The interactions between characters are mostly cringe but partially meant to be that way. Lastly, it is like a Sci Fi channel movie in the sense that it doesn’t take itself seriously. It has humor the likes of Sharknado etc. Although my 80s horror heart was fighting this film most of the way through, i ultimately ended up enjoying it as I finally understood it in the end. This is a fan service film that slaps a new age feel on things. This could be a standalone critters, don’t expect much connection to the previous films. The filming is sharp and high quality. The critters look great and they have lots of on screen time. There is plenty of gore and funny call backs like the critter ball. Dee Wallace from the original makes a brief appearance as a Bounty Hunter. Although i would gladly shave off 20 mins of mid film floundering, i have to give Critters Attack praise. Its just meant to be a fun romp and its high quality at that. Everyone just looks like they’re having fun making this film. Hey, no one else has been making us any critters films, and if I flip off my stuck in the 80s switch, this one is kind of fun!

Have low expectations, and this is a good movie
|Posted .Owned for 11 months when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendThis is a case of so bad it's good. There are 4 other films in this series and are classics out of the 80's, this fits right among them. Giant plot holes, borderline acting, thin plot line, but still a lot of fun to watch. If they didn't have this set in current times, and said it was 1985, it'd had a little more of flow. When you see this, you'll understand what I mean. The urgency of the emergency is not there, but they still pushed on. I'd say good renter or even quick sale price purchase.

Finally another Critters movie
|Posted .Owned for 4 months when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendAs a fan of the original critters movies as a child I was pretty excited to see a sequel all these years later. This film is just as fun as critters 1-4, the film does its best to maintain the same gore, humor and just complete ridiculousness of these killer alien balls with teeth trying to eat every living thing in sight. The addition of the queen critter (who was just adorable) and a familiar face from the original film was a nice touch for a returning fan.

Lackluster movie
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed. No, I would not recommend this to a friendI think the narrative feels more like the set up for a tv show than a movie. My main issue has to be the characters. I didn't care for any of them. They were dull and lifeless and lacked what the characters in the first two movies had. Despite some fan service such as the critter ball there wasn't nearly enough in it. Where's Charlie? Grovers Bend? No shape shifting bounty hunters? Dee Wallace plays a bounty hunter but never turns into anyone else ...so....

A throwback for the fans
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendIf you like the original films, you'll likely enjoy this as well. This is all animatronic puppets, like the original, no CG here, so it's cheesy and kind of fake at times, but that's kind of what made the originals so endearing. Not quite as much comedy as in the older films, and the plot is paper thin, as usual, just enough to support some Krite mayhem. Glad to see Dee Wallace back here, though she isn't given much to do. But it was good enough that I'd like to see another sequel. Check your discs when you receive them as my blu-ray was defective and I didn't discover it until the return period had expired by a few days. Thankfully with combo packs there are other options and I was able to watch the standard DVD.

They Tried
|Posted .Owned for 1 year when reviewed.I would recommend this to a friendWell, they did try to make this a fun Critters movie, unfortunately they also tried to get it to appeal to the younger crowd which leaves original fans cringing. Worth a watch, and the Blu is cheap enough.
