Synopsis

Doom
One of the most popular and influential video games ever makes its way to the big screen in this sci-fi thriller. A coalition of Earth's scientific and military interests have established a research colony called Olduvai on the planet Mars, but one day all communication from the outpost stops and no one can tell what has happened -- though the final messages suggest it's not good. Believing foul play may have overtaken Olduvai's crew, the Rapid Response Tactical Squad, a team of specially trained military personnel, are deployed to investigate the situation and, if necessary, eliminate the invaders. But Sarge (Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock) and Reaper (Karl Urban), leaders of the RRTS team, soon discover the situation is far more grim than they could have imagined. An experiment on Olduvai has very literally opened a portal to Hades, and a variety of savage and demonic creatures have overtaken the colony. Now the RRTS must seal off Olduvai, close off any access to Earth, and exterminate the satanic beasts before they can kill again. Doom also stars Rosamund Pike (as Dr. Grimm), Dexter Fletcher, Ben Daniels, and Deobia Oparei. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Look, Doom is no award winner, but it is one fun, yet flawed, film. Mostly, the only negative I can level against Doom is that it is often FAAARRR too dark. This seems odd, as it appears to be done in the monster scenes, but in those instances where monsters are seen in better light, the special effects seem rather good. At the pricepoint Doom is at, and with the actors involved, (The Rock, Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike, and the always entertaining Richard Brake,) it's a fun ride. Those expecting that Doom would somehow break the videogame movie barrier and deliver some transcendant experience need not apply. Doom tries to strike a balance between becoming more than its threadbare source material (what often seems like great logic in a videogame falls way short once it becomes more real,) and keeping it recognizable. It's not always a pretty balancing act, but it works, mostly. If you've never seen Doom, your best option to determine whether you'll enjoy it is to find the first person shooter sequence filmed for the movie. If you watch this and think, "this is ridiculous," there's a good chance Doom isn't for you. If you think, "hey, this is some silly fun," then grab it while Best Buy offers this steelcase at such a low price. You're getting the fun, comic book inspired steelbook, the unrated blu ray, a digital copy, and all the extras included with the special edition DVD at a great price!

    Great Action/Sci-fi Movie

I like this movie on blu-ray mostly because of the combination of this movie with blu-ray. The surround sound for this movie is excellent. It really makes you feel like you are in the movie with the characters. The monster and gunfire sounds are created with a lot of care in mind for the listener. The plot of the movie is decent also. I have a very nice home theater system so sound is just as important to me as video. The video to me is average for blu-ray which is o.k. for me.The acting is also decent which makes the movie very watchable and keeps your attention nicely especially when watching for the first time or after you haven't seen it in awhile. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves to watch movies in surround sound.

This is another movie that was made from a video game, that saddly was just like some of the rest...not that good. Lets be honest, there's only two video game movies that was great, Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil (the first one only) and the rest have been boring. This movie was ok and even with movie shot being like the game. So if you like The Rock, I mean really like him than this is another movie to get, but if you are not a fan than go ahead and pass it.

This was a great movie, my wife and I really enjoyed it! We're fans of the Rock, his movies and his WWE background. It was nice to see him play a villain for once, he should do it more often. This movie had a great plot based off of a video game, hence the few cheesy first person point-of-view sequences. The acting was good and the film was very intense and fast paced. I highly recommend it! Also, another good sci-fi/ horror is Serenity.

Dwayne Johnson did great in this movie. Is it worth it to see this? Absolutely! This is on the top of the list for Movies based on video games!

I really just wanted this movie to have it in my doom collection. The film itself is not so good. The steel case is a Best Buy exclusive. It was cheap and I like the cover art that had been converted to a comic book style look.

The steelbook was damaged. looks like it had been dropped at least once. there was only one left so I did not have the option of taking a different one. I still love the steelbook in my collection though, it looks great!
