Mel Gibson directed this biopic about World War II Army medic Desmond Doss (played here by Andrew Garfield). A conscientious objector who refused to take a life or even carry a weapon, Doss was eventually awarded the Medal of Honor for saving the lives of 75 soldiers on the battlefields of Okinawa. Hugo Weaving, Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn, and Sam Worthington co-star in Gibson's return to the director's seat.~Daniel Gelb

This movie is about conscientious objector Desmond Doss. It is an excellent movie along the lines of Saving Private Ryan. It shows Desmond home life and how he became a conscientious objector, yet still risked his life as a WWII Combat Medic. He was abused by his father and the other men in his platoon. He earned their respect and a Congressional Medal of Honor when he intentionally stayed behind enemy lines over night as the rest of the men retreated. During the night he rescued 75 men by carrying them through enemy territory down an escarpment. The accurate portrayal of the events and the excellent acting and cast make this a 5-star movie. This is one of the least known stories from WWII and deserves a place in your movie library.
People had been telling me for over a year I needed to see this film and they were 100% right. Being a collector of steelbooks I decided to pick up this copy for $14.99 I believe. The movie tells an amazing true and thoughtful story. The acting is superb and with Mel Gibson at the helm you might expect intense and drawn out action sequences and you will never be disappointed, remember Braveheart? One of the best war films of the century.
Love this movie, all the actors, are great, the action and reality of what a war is all about. It awes me how the main character carries out his Christian beliefs, even in war! Mel Gibson hit five stars again! I wanted to see this movie in theaters, ever since I heard about it but was very busy with life and working, but now I can watch it anytime I want. Andrew Garfield is an impressive actor and I will be looking for him in movies in the future . Great job Mel, keep bringing em!
