Great 3D and plenty of earthshaking. Thin on plot (seen it all before) with a miscast Keifer Sutherland. Action scenes are about average for today's features. Fortunately, the movie doesn't overstay its welcome, which is a plus, so the entertainment value is retained. Just don't expect award winning performances, just sit back to let the visuals and sound wash over you. The bigger your screen the better the higher fun quotient. A bonus is the layout of the city of Pompeii for those who have visited the actual site.

this was a good movie. i saw this a while back and i wanted to add it to my library.
Pompeii is not the best movie in the world, and it is not the worst. I purchased this movie for a number reasons, one, it cost $5 on sale and two, it's 3-D. And I'm just getting into 3-D, and I enjoyed it. Because it was 3-D, and I did enjoy the characters, and the storyline. I will admit, I'm glad I didn't have to try to write a story about a volcano exploding. But as I said I enjoyed watching the characters and the setting. Very nice period piece.
The disc looked fantastic and sounded great. It has deleted scenes, filmmakers commentary, and ultraviolet digital, among other things.
It was directed by Paul WS Anderson, a director whose work I enjoy. He shot it in 3-D which which gives it that wonderful depth that you don't get with conversion all the time. This look excellent.
So all in all I'm glad I purchased this movie, and I did enjoy watching it, and looking forward to watching it again.
