Hi there. Thanks for your great question! The plan starts the day of the purchase. The reason it does is because it covers much more than the manufacturer warranties. It fills in the gaps so to speak. For example, the manufacturer wouldn't cover a damaged laptop that was dropped. Our plan would. The manufacturer may have more specific guidelines on what is covered and what is not and ours may be easier to work with. We'd be happy to answer any further questions if you have any.
