• I never experienced a smell after the initial use which i let run it's course and dicarded.The black is plastic white interior and black exterior

• The only difference is personal preference - interior is not stainless - it is white plastic and does not smell .

• Inside is plastic no matter what the outside is. Mine doesn't impart any plastic taste or smell to the ice. I use filtered water to fill mine.
