“I noticed that clearance requirements for this upright freezer call for nearly 8" on each side of the appliance (Compared to min. 3" clearance for the GE 21" model). I'd rather buy this brand but only have 3" clearance. Why does this need 8" on each side?”

I don’t have 8” clearance on one side and have had no problems.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.That’s an easy answer, ventilation, ventilation, ventilation. Period. A product needs to be able to breathe just like a human. You don’t want something overheating and you definitely don’t want to start a fire.
