“Does this chromebook have the capability to run apps from google playstore, and is it compatible with "(beta) linux" feature(cristini)? The chromebook I currently have is old and doesn't support either of those things, so I'm looking for one that does.”

This C720 Chromebook does not support Google Playstore, due to the age of the model. You can check Best Buy's website for the latest shipping Chromebooks that do support Google Play.
