Chromebooks are different from Windows laptop products in that they are designed to be used primarily while connected to the Internet, with most applications and documents living in the cloud. Because of this they don’t have much for on board storage but they also are not expensive either. Chromebooks run off apps like an Android phone or tablet so you cannot download and install applications or .exe files. If you need to use third party software applications that must be installed on the computer, a Chromebook is likely not for you, where a Windows laptop would suit you better.

Q: QuestionDoes this chromebook have the capability to run apps from google playstore, and is it compatible with "(beta) linux" feature(cristini)? The chromebook I currently have is old and doesn't support either of those things, so I'm looking for one that does.

• A:Answer This Chromebook does not include a built in CDROM/DVD. While you can connect an external USB drive to the Chromebook, there are limitations on what you can do with the drive. If you need to use an optical drive for reading/writing media, a Chromebook may not be for you because of those limitations, and a Windows laptop would suit you better.

• A:Answer It is used (pre-owned), not refurbished. BestBuy says that it works properly. If worried, you can buy a one year Geek Squad warranty for $20--if it doesn't work, you bring it in to BestBuy (no packaging needed), and they either fix it or give you a new one (or another used one in working order).
