I would think a laptop would be better for college. The Chrome book doesn't have a hard drive (although you can use a portable hard drive) so you are limited to programs youcan use. The Chrome book is mainly used for surfing the internet, email and printing online documents. Hope this helps.

Great for web browsing and less prone to nasty viruses. You will be safe of viruses because it limits the software one can download. Its the best option if one wants to web browse, listen to music, and stay relatively safe from viruses and malware. On the other hand laptops or PC's are more versatile, productive and customizable. With Windows 10, you are capable of doing more things with it than you would with a chromebook. Many more programs in the internet support Windows 10, and having that support goes a long way, especially if that freshman is doing many essays on Microsoft Word or spreadsheets on Microsoft Excel. It tends to be more susceptible to virus and malware if not properly secured with constatly update anti-virus programs. I personally have a Chromebook and I love it. Both are great for their unique features. I'm sure that freshman will enjoy either one!
