Based on other reviews, people have sent it for warranty repairs and they still have the same problem. Hoping it is a software issue and a fix comes out. VERY annoying.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As of November 2022, both 714 models I brought home had the speaker pop issues, could not find solution, returned both devices
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. With an Acer Spin 714, I got crackles sounds with Stable version 110. I tried the Beta channel @ version 112 and the crackles were gone. However, when I reverted back to the Stable channel, the crackles returned.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have purchased then returned one Acer 714 because of this noise, then got another device with the same problem. This seems to be a bug in the sound driver, not specific to this model or even Acer. Since this has been dragged for over a year, we are going to return the 2nd device and wait with a replacement. I am going to attempt to use the beta channel then revert back to the stable channel to see if it works.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. I received a new Acer Spin 714 Chromebook yesterday, set it up last night, and was dismayed by the popping and crackling from the speakers when watching Youtube or Netflix videos. I started with the Acer site. This is a problem dating back well over a year, and three months ago an Acer representative claimed Google was working on a Chromium OS fix that would address the issue in the future. Nothing new since and obviously the latest stable Chromium OS version that installs when you set up the unit does not address the issue. On reddit I found the work-around. You go to Settings>About Chrome OS>additional details and switch the channel from "stable" to "beta". This updates the OS and powerwashes the system, so all of your data is erased and you start fresh with the device. The current beta version of Chrome OS fixes the issue. But I here's the silver lining. If you then repeat the channel change process and switch it back to "stable", do another powerwash, and reactivate the device, the popping is gone. Rather pathetic that this "contender for the Pixelbook Go/HP Dragonfly crown has been hampered since launch with this irritating problem. I was close to returning the unit and going in a different direction.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. When I experienced this, going from stable to beta and back to stable fixed this. I was later able to go back to beta and the problem was gone. I also think poor battery life accompanied the popping/clicking noise
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Out of the box, I never heard any popping noises from the speakers. I have since upgraded to ChromeOS 108.0.5359.37 (so I could install Steam), and the laptop continues to behave as expected.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It was fixed through one of the updates but I'm not sure which one. When I initially got mine, I had the same issue. It updated one day, and the popping/crackling sound went away.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not fixed as of Nov 30, 2022. Workaround is to use headphones or Bluetooth speaker.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have never heard any popping sound. I did read someone else's answer to this though, that said they tightening all the screws on the back (emphasizing that you need the exact right sized screw driver) and that resolved the problem. Not sure why.
