“I've read many reviews on this item and some of them consist of people saying that their laptop was in very bad shape upon arrival, overheated terribly, or the fans were ear-breaking. Should I be worried about this hapoening to my laptop as well?”

Due to current quality inspections in practice today all over the world, bad products are passed on to the consumer with the gamble that they won't be returned. If it is returned, they just throw it in the trash knowing full well that it is bad. That practice is for all products not just computers. If you ever purchase a product that does not meet your expectations, RETURN it. If everyone did this, maybe it would eliminate this practice. Should you be worried? No. Not all products are bad. I have not experienced any of those problems with this product. Mine works fine.
