“Considering this to hook up tv audio to my Bluetooth headphones......My question is are you able to have the main audio off on tv, and this will still provide audio for headphones only? For late night movie/gaming so as not to disturb household.”

Yes. I can turn the sound down with the remote and the Bluetooth still transmits the sound to my Bluetooth speaker.
