“I plugged in the Aluratek to the headphone jack on my stereo receiver, paired it up with my smartphone, and tried to play a You tube song...nothing coming out of my speakers. Any ideas?”

The Headphone jack is an output only. You have to plug it into th AUX input port. If it doesn't have one, you could try a microphone port, though sound quality may not be very good.
