“I only need 2 things 1. how do I get this thing to power up set to a specific input? 2. What is the remote code for an VR-5 remote control? Just want to hit the power button and go straight to HDMI 1, do the channel and volume on other remote?”

To configure another remote to power on and mute and volume use the Element Fire TV and it should work. It will default to the last source on connection if you configure that connection too.

We recommend using the Alexa Voice remote that is included and setup with your other devices during initial setup. Hpe this helps, enjoy your day!
