• It does not need a speaker it can generate enough volume. If you wanted to fill a giant room you would need a bigger product

• The Amazon DOT has a built in speaker to talk and/or play music... It does not require an external speaker but you can connect one if you whish. I use the BOSE SoundLink wireless speakers ... works great !!!
