Echo dot has a built it speaker. You dont need an external speaker to use this. However, the built it speakers are average and may not be good for music listening. The music sounds okay. Still, you can add the speaker anytime you want. All you need is a speaker that has an AUX IN. You can get one of those pretty cheap.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The built in speaker is fine if you are not looking for an audio experience and just seeking music to fill the void. I have no issues with just listening to the Dot when I'm folding laundry or getting ready for bed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The speaker is adequate. However i do recommend a bluetooth speaker, just so you can take the music with you...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I was thinking the same thing when I purchased mine. I can tell you that it sounds fine in quiet rooms. It sounds like a higher fidelity radio. I have two. One in my library and one in my kitchen and I listen to music on the Echo Dot very frequently. I can have the one in the library connect to Bluetooth speakers if I want, but usually I find that the built in speaker is fine. I have only on a few occasions gone to max volume (it distorts the sound just slightly) but find that I'm usually between vol 5-8 (10 max). Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need to plug it in(via the headphone jack) to external speakers. I think the only thing the tiny littler internal speaker is for is the chime thing that lets you know it is waiting for a command. I used some old computer speakers for my Echo Dot. It works great with them.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's self contained..no need for an external speaker
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the internal speaker is somewhat similar to listening to music directly on a cell phone, I personally think that the speaker works well and typically use the unit without connecting to a Bluetooth speaker.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depends. It does have a self contained speaker (mono) and it sounds "okay". One time I was mowing the lawn outside and she had music playing on it in the kitchen and she couldn't hear over the lawnmower. We bought a insignia Bluetooth speaker for $12.99 and linked it to that dot and it is a big helper.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, it has its own built in speaker which is good enough for my needs. If you need something more, it can be connected to a Bluetooth speaker
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Dot has a built in speaker, and sounds like a radio. For music enjoyment, however, I found it a bit tinny. I bought a Bose bluetooth enabled speaker and paired them, so now I get great sound. You could also connect the Dot via an aux cable to your existing external speakers. I am enjoying having the Dot instantly find whatever music I would like to hear at that moment, and play it for me, simply by asking. It pairs with Pandora, Spotify, I heart radio..or any radio station, for that matter. You just ask for the specific song, or genre of music, or latest news, and it's played. Not on your playlist? Alexa (Dot's Siri) will find it on iHeartRadio for me. All free downloads. Audio books, no problem. Being voice activated, she will also tell you the weather, the time, spell a word for you, get information from Wikipedia, send a recipe from Food Network that you want to your inbox... control smart devices that you have... I'm still discovering stuff that Dot can do.
