i'm assuming you mean you got an Echo Dot. It is capable of operating any Alexa enabled device including, lights, plugs, thermostats etc.. You have to make sure the device is Alexa compatible or can be plugged in to an Alexa compatible smart plug. You can also ask it questions like a search engine i.e. what the weather, who won the giants game, recipe for apple pie etc. You can set alarms, timers, reminders for important events, make calls etc. There is a lot that it can do. That's what makes it a smart speaker. A blue tooth speaker just connects to another blue tooth audio device and plays sound from that device. Oh by the way the Echo Dot can do that too!!

But if this is true and you have the dot all you need is a smart device (phone/tablet) and download the alexa app. Once downloaded log in to your amazon account, and add the device on there, it'll link up with your account and become active. If you want to use to Bluetooth music ask Alexa to pair and turn on your Bluetooth it'll come up as Echo dot-series number. You don't always need to use the alexa app to talk to echo but it makes it easy to manage what smart devices you have, reminders, alarms and to do lists. Hope this helped!

Please try again later.The Alexa echo dot is a Bluetooth speaker it is compatible with Spotify and Pandora or Amazonmusi but it also comes along with cool feature, for example, can tell my Alexa to turn of my light the tv extra all you would need to purchase it a Bluetooth light and smart tv.
