Normally, it's independent. However, if you create a GROUP let's say "upstairs" you can do it. Just say "play iheart radio on upstairs". Then the music plays simultaneously on all units in that group. Works great.

For example, if you create a group called "downstairs" you can say "Play music on the downstairs group'" and what you tell it to play will be on ALL of the speakers in the group.
