Yes it is capable of acting as a security device. Mine detects broken glass sounds, fire alarm sounds, and has motion detection

And you can ask Alexa to notify you and view that cam when something detected. These brands should have customer support that usually comes with purchase. Or speak with the GEEK Squad at BestBuy.

While you can activate and view the Echo Show 8 2nd Gen's camera like a security camera while you're out of the house, you'll have to set up a routine to have it alert you if it detects motion. To set up a routine: Open the Alexa app. Open More and select Routines. Select Plus. Select When this happens, and follow the steps in the app to choose what starts your routine. In this case we would select 'Smart Home' then the Echo Show 8 you want to use and then 'People are detected'. Select Add action, and follow the steps in the app to choose the action of your routine. For this purpose you may want to choose 'Notification' or 'Send Announcement' depending on how you'd like to be alerted. You can select multiple actions for the same routine. Select Save. Hope that helps, have a great day!
