The device does have audio reading but it does not highlight the words as it reads.

Hi Mchase,
The kindle application will allow this functionality. However, the book that are you looking to have read audibly needs to have the functionality built into it. The book would need to have text to speech enabled on the product page. While reading, you would tap the center of the screen, and then tap the 3 vertical dot icon in the uper right corner. From there you would tap additional settings and then tap the switch text to text to speech option. Have a great day!
