- Answer Yes you can do all of this. Fire HD tablets run on an Android-based operating system; not Microsoft Windows. You can access gmail, hotmail, yahoo email, et al without ever using windows or any windows browser. The default browser here is Silk, a web browser created specifically for Amazon's Android Tablets.
