• It does have to be powered. But you can power it from a USB port in the tv.

• Hi Jake, The Fire TV Stick does plug into the HDMI and it ALSO does need power. The best way to power it is through a traditional wall outlet. Hope that info helps.

• Plug it right into one of your hdmi in the back or side of your tv. And make sure you Attach the usb Yo charger than plug it in an wall outlet to begin set up.
