Yes, it works from your Wi-Fi. You then get the app’s that you want (Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video), then sit back and binge away. If you want to use certain apps like HBO Now, you will have to have an active account through cable or satellite. You may also be able to pay for the services through the app. I do not have any cable/satellite, just WiFi, and have been enjoying the fire stick very much. Hopefully this answers your question.
