There are free apps and paid apps that can be used. It all depends on what you desire to watch. Neflix, Amazon Prime etc are paid streaming apps. There are free apps such as Pluto, Crackles and others that have movies and TV shows that's free in 
Google Play Store that you can download onto stick.

You need to have an Amazon account to register the stick before you can use it. Once it’s registered you will see that there are lots of free channels you can watch with an amazon prime account, or you can order channels or you can get an IPTV service online for really cheap.

You can Google "free streaming services" to find a few free ones but the best movies and shows are going to be on the paid streaming services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube TV.
