regular tv with an hdmi port? not sure what you mean by that.... if you have hdmi, the input should support 480p, 720p, 1080i and or 1080p.

but the fire tv stick should work via hdmi just fine despite the resolution. key word... should

Generally any tv with HDMI IS an HDTV. But to answer your question, if your tv has an HDMI input, you're good to go. That's all you'll need, one open HDMI input. The usb can connect to the tv as well or to the nearest wall outlet, with included usb hub.

1080p is High Definition. If it has hdmi, then im guessing your 'regular' tv is still a flat screen 1080 tv? Or did you mean the new UHD, ultra high def, 4k tv's?
Basically, if it has an hdmi port on the tv, then the firetv stick will work with it. It connects to your home wifi and streams netflix, etc to your tv.
