• You need an antenna hooked up to your tv, if you don't have a cable provider. Then when turning on tv your prompt to choose antenna, dvr, HDMI ect... choose antenna that will give you most local channels.

• Yes, it has multile apps you can download for all major news outlets. Many local stations also have free APPS to watch just the news on that station. If you missed a broadcast, no worries. You can watch it on demand.
